Pascal is a 47 pound, 2-3-year-old red heeler who is looking for his forever home! He was surrendered to the shelter along with 12 other cattle dogs from an unfortunate dog hoarding situation. ACDRA swooped in quickly to prevent the 13 cattle dogs from being euthanized due to lack of resources and space at the shelter.

Pascal is a medium- high energy ACD. It is probably safe to say that he had never stepped foot inside of a house prior to being fostered. On first impression Pascal can come off as shy and submissive in new environments or situations. Despite his initial reservations, he comes out of his shell very quickly and will not want to have you out of his sight! He is a certified velcro dog and will bond quickly to his person.

As a result of Pascal’s past, he has not received training, which means he will need continued training and structure implemented into his daily routine. Pascal would thrive best in an environment that can provide daily exercise and enrichment to keep him happy and healthy. He can be very high energy at times, but with adequate exercise he would be content chilling on a dog bed or be happy to cuddle next to you while unwinding at the end of the day. Pascal is living with three other dogs in his foster home. He gets along great with all of them and has proven to be very dog friendly! I think he would do well with another playful, friendly dog to keep him engaged, but this is not a requirement for adoption. Pascal is not fostered with cats so I cannot attest to how his behavior would be around them. As for kids, I think Pascal would be fine with older children who would be able to appreciate his exuberant play style--Pascal is a jumper, but we are working on that!

Pascal sleeps quietly in his crate at night, which we keep in our room, so he knows we are close by. We also crate him whenever we are not home because his mischievous side can come out when unsupervised. Pascal is working on house-training; he has made a few accidents since living in his foster home but is making improvements by the day as he becomes accustomed to his new routine.

Pascal will make a fantastic companion for an adopter who has the patience and time to dedicate to his needs. With continued training, lots of positive reinforcement and daily exercise there is no doubt he will blossom into the awesome dog he is meant to be. In return you will be thanked with many kisses, smiles and cuddles!

Pascal is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. He is being fostered in Windham, Maine. Please email gorejaime@gmail.com with any questions!
