Ozzy's Story
OZZY IS BEING FOSTERED IN NEW YORK. APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED NATIONWIDE.
Ozzy is a young (almost 11 months), energetic English Shepherd with all the classic ES traits—brains, heart, and just the right amount of mischief! He’s lanky now but growing into a strong, athletic adult—ideal for someone who appreciates the drive, intelligence, and spirit this breed brings.

Temperament & Special Skills
• Loyal, affectionate, curious, and playful
• Adores fetch and belly rubs; once he bonds, he’ll be your loyal shadow
• Smart: already picking up cues like “leave it” and “off”
• Excellent nose: shows great potential for scent work or tracking
• Brave and curious—little hesitation around new experiences or large animals like horses
• Basic obedience training – Sit, Down, Stay, Paw

With Other Animals
• Social and playful with most dogs, especially females (spayed or intact)
• Best without intact male dogs in the home
• Medium-to-high prey drive: not suited for small, fast-moving animals (e.g., chickens) without focused training/supervision
• Does well with dog-savvy cats

Behavior Notes
• Will vocalize when he spots something new—people, dogs, or unusual sights
• Has some leash reactivity—improving steadily with consistent training
• May get mouthy when over-excited but responds well to calm correction
• Confident, gritty, endlessly curious—he meets the world head-on

Best Fit Home
Ozzy will thrive with someone who truly understands the English Shepherd mindset—an owner who values training, structure, and plenty of outdoor adventure. He’ll shine with trail walks, hikes, agility, or scent work to challenge his mind and body.

Ozzy is not a good fit for homes with young children. His energy level, play style, and intensity make him best suited for a home with older teens or adults who are experienced with, or eager to learn about, managing a bright, high-drive English Shepherd.

He’s not a dog for a first-time owner, but for the right person, Ozzy will be a once-in-a-lifetime partner: loyal, intelligent, and full of heart. (And also VERY cute)

Please contact Jenifer at jenifer.franz@hotmail.com to learn more about Ozzy.
We encourage all prospective adopters to read more about the breed, the adoption process, and all the dogs in our care by visiting our website (www.nesr.info). An adoption application is required of all prospective adopters.
