Ozzie's Story

This handsome "little" guy truly needs no introduction.

We can hear the crowd chanting...
Ozzie Ozzie OZZIE!!!!

That's right our adorable Great Dane Ozzie is finally ready to find his happily ever after home!

As many of you recall Ozzie was born in our care when his mama was surrendered and no one knew she was pregnant. And who can forget when he was just a few weeks old and a terrible accident happened that left him with a massive goose egg on his nogging and his foster mama franticly rushing him to not one but two emergency vets where he was given the absolute best care. And after a few days in an oxygen tank, being put on meds for swelling and tons of TLC he was finally able to come home. We spent weeks continuing his meds and working with him all the while encountering another hiccup. Ozzie wasn't interested in eating and was not putting on weight. So back to the vet we went for bloodwork and a fecal to find out Ozzie had an overabundance of round worms taking up residency in his belly. After two treatments of dewormer and lots of bribing with any and every food under the sun, we are happy to announce that he is doing amazingly well. He has been consistently gaining weight and is filling out, finally! No more nasty little worms giving him an upset belly.

Ozzie is now 10 weeks old and so stinking adorable! He is a typical puppy... sleep, poop, play, eat and repeat! He loves playing with the other dogs in his foster home as well as toys (and shoes) of all kinds. He loves exploring the backyard and running around with the other dogs, even if it isn't the most graceful at times. He is content to find a dog bed and lay down and chew a toy or take a nap. He is a snuggle bug, he enjoys being snuggled and held. Ozzie is eating like a champ now, a mix of dry large breed puppy food and wet puppy food. We no longer need to bribe him with naughty things to get him to eat. He has been doing really well with going potty outside, he does still have accidents but that is expected of such a young puppy. He also sleeps wonderfully through the night in an open xpen. We do have music playing for him when ever he is in his xpen, as well as some toys. We really haven't started him with leach walking yet, so this is something his new family will need to work on.

Ozzie has had his first round of vaccinations and will need two more rounds of distemper and his rabies when he is old enough. He is microchipped and on preventatives. Due to his young age and breed, he is not altered and will be adopted out on a neuter contract that comes with an additional fee on top of his adoption fee. This fee is 100% fully refundable when the contract is followed, he will need to be neutered as well as have gastropexy surgery within a set timeframe. He has had follow-ups appointments over the past weeks and the vet notes that he has mild exophthalmos and mild ataxia, both have gotten better with each visit. His foster family will gladly provide more information for potential applicants.

What does the ideal family look like for our superstar? His forever family will need to have large breed experience. They will need to understand the cost of caring for a large breed dog; the amount of food he eats on a daily basis in itself is hefty. A fenced in yard would definitely be an added perk. And another friendly, playful companion for him would be greatly appreciated.

If you feel this handsome guy would make an amazing addition to your family, apply today!

www.zoeshouserescue.com

Ozzie is being fostered near Reading, PA and potential adopters will need to be willing to come to this area for a meet and greet. Any residential dogs will also need to be able to attend the meet and greet.

Zoe's House Rescue
Kennel License 9117
Sinking Spring, PA 19608
