Otto's Story

OTTO UPDATE: HOW IS THIS DOG STILL AVAILABLE?! 🚨
Otto has officially entered his “learning how to dog” era… and honestly? He’s crushing it.
This scruffy little low-rider spent most of his formative puppy months in a shelter, so normal dog life is still pretty new to him. But thanks to Gibbs Groom Shop, Kayla, family, and their very tolerant crew of dogs, Otto is finally getting to discover what being a happy young dog looks like.
And apparently… it looks like:
✔️ dramatic belly flops
✔️ rolling over submissively when dogs sniff him
✔️ trying SO HARD to keep up with athletic dogs on his hilariously short little legs
✔️ joyful chaos
✔️ accidental body slams
✔️ maximum goofball energy
Kayla reports he walked into the house like:
“HELLO I WOULD LIKE FRIENDS PLEASE.”
When corrected by other dogs? He listens.
When he gets overwhelmed? He belly-up taps out.
When toys are involved? He currently thinks possession is 9/10ths of the law, so we’re working on resource guarding and helping him learn better manners. The good news? Otto is super food motivated, eager to learn, and very trainable.
And despite being built like a tiny furry linebacker, he is somehow profoundly unathletic. Watching him attempt to chase faster dogs is basically a live-action cartoon.
Otto is around a year old and still growing into himself mentally and physically. He’s got this long, low, thickening little “Schwarzenegger but make it scruffy” build and absolutely zero understanding of personal space.
He is NOT:
❌ a calm decorative dog
❌ a couch ornament
❌ emotionally subtle
He IS:
✅ hilarious
✅ affectionate
✅ social
✅ playful
✅ wildly entertaining
✅ the kind of dog that makes a house feel alive
Otto would likely thrive with playful dogs, active humans, structure, continued training, and people who appreciate a little lovable chaos in their life.
And underneath all the comedy? There’s a really good dog here. One who missed out on a lot early on and is trying so hard to figure life out now.
📍Knoxville, TN
👉 ALL adoption info/application: Www.RecycledBestFriends.org
If Otto made you laugh, PLEASE help us get him seen.
Like. Recycled Best Friends's Adoption Policy
Our standard adoption fees are $250.00, this could vary based on breed. We have a standard application process for both fostering and adoption to ensure the best match for our dogs and families. • All applicants must complete an application, which includes questions, a veterinary reference, and two personal references. • Once submitted, an application reviewer will carefully evaluate the information and contact both the veterinary and personal references. • After the review is complete, the Director will follow up with the applicant directly to discuss the application in more detail. • The Director will then determine approval status and help match the applicant with the dog that best fits their home and lifestyle. As part of the process, approved applicants are required to attend a meet-and-greet with all household members—including current dogs—to ensure a safe and successful match.
