Otis Jan 26's Story

Looking for your next furry BFF?

We don’t have perfect dogs — but we do have dogs who are perfect for the right someone. Our goal is to match each dog with the home that fits them best and each home with the dog that will sing to your heart.

Ready to adopt? When Otis landed at the shelter, he had to have surgery to remove a collar that was embedded in his body. We cannot imagine!! The amount of neglect and abuse this boy endured early in life is nothing short of heartbreaking. But Otis doesn't want you to feel sorry for him.

Otis is best suited for a home where he is the only dog. He is not looking for a playful, high-energy dog partner - he wants space, structure, and the freedom to be himself without being challenged.

Otis is looking for an adopter who appreciates a confident, independent dog and is willing to give him the time and guidance he needs to settle in. In the right environment, with the right person, Otis has the potential to be a loyal, steady companion who thrives on respect, routine, and understanding.

What is my personality like? Meet Otis, a 3-year-old, 68-pound white doodle with a confident presence and a big personality to match. Otis is friendly and social with people and enjoys human attention, but when it comes to other dogs, he knows exactly what he does and does not like. Otis is picky about his friends and knows what he likes and doesn't like. He is not a fan of dogs - especially puppies - getting in his face or pushing his boundaries, and he makes his preferences very clear.

On leash, Otis does pull fairly hard. Given that he has been chained in the past, this behavior isn’t surprising, and with consistent training and patience, he has the potential to improve. He will benefit from an adopter who is confident handling a strong dog and committed to continuing leash work in a positive, structured way.

Otis is still figuring out toys and play and hasn’t shown much interest in them yet, which may change as he becomes more settled and secure in a home environment. Crates are not his favorite place, but he will go in willingly if a treat is tossed inside, and once in, he keeps his space clean. With time and positive associations, his comfort with crating may continue to improve.

Like many dogs transitioning into a new chapter, Otis will need time to adjust to a home setting. He will require patience as he learns your routines, expectations, and house rules. A structured, consistent home with clear boundaries will help Otis feel secure and understand what’s expected of him.

How do I act when I first meet new people?

Other tips and tidbits: Birthdate 12/18/2022

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters

Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them.

Want updates and ways to help?
