Oreo's Story

Oreo, a Shih Tzu mix, is estimated to be 3 years old and weighs about 14 pounds. He would prefer a home with other dogs, but could be a solo pet as long as someone is willing to work with his anxious tendencies. Oreo is a medium-energy dog who needs a walk and then settles into a nap. He loves car rides and children. Interested but respectful of the resident cat. He doesnt do well crated, but does ok while left out. Hes currently wearing belly bands to get used to the routine, but can mark indoors. He is potty-trained. Loves to snuggle on your lap and in your bed. Oreo loves other dogs and shows no signs of aggression. Oreo doesnt need a fenced yard, but would prefer a house and not an apartment, as he can bark after you leave the house. He will need to be groomed every 6-8 weeks. We just started on Fluoxetine for his anxiety, too soon to know if it is helping or not. For many dogs, this is a short-term solution as the dog gets used to his new environment. Work with your vet to wean him off the Fluoxetine. - You must fill out an adoption application before you are allowed to meet the animal. Please complete the adoption application located on our website: https://smalldogsminnesota.org/adoption-application. His adoption fee is $350 + tax

- Small Dog Rescue of MN does not negotiate the adoption fee on our dogs and we must charge sales tax on all adoption fees in order to comply with Minnesota state law. Please note that SDR is philosophically opposed to the idea of buying and selling animals, and we support any future legislation that would remove sales tax from adoption fees. Until then, however, it must be charged.
- Please note that we do not have a shelter, and all dogs are in foster homes.
