Oreo's Story

Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement-Kennel License #2617

Could she do well with kids? Yes, with children around 6 years old, on a kid-by-kid basis.

Could she do well with other dogs? Yes, on a dog-by-dog basis.

Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. During her assessment, she remained engaged and approachable, easily introducing herself to strangers and interacting appropriately with a new dog. Her enthusiasm was evident during leash walking, as she eagerly pulled from spot to spot without a specific destination in mind.

When we moved inside, it took her a little time to settle down, but once she focused on the activities in the room, she stayed engaged for the rest of the assessment. Oreo enjoyed being handled and actively sought continued interaction. Although she struggled with redirection, often returning to the behavior I was asking her to avoid, she did show an understanding of the cue "sit." Additionally, she demonstrated excellent recovery when faced with startling sounds and objects.

---

For more resources to help with any step of your adoption journey go to: https://go.petadoptiongateway.com/LycomingDT

Lycoming County SPCA's Adoption Policy
If interested in a pet at the Lycoming County SPCA, please fill out an adoption application. The application is available on our website: lycomingspca.org. We may require additional steps in our process such as a home visit, permission from parents, or other additional requests. We appreciate your patience as we complete your adoption. Before adding a new member to your family, please consider the following: Many pets live 10 to 15 years. How old will you be? How old will your children be? Is there a chance you could move in the next 10 years? Are you willing to restrict your choice of housing to accommodate a pet? If the pet is for a child are you willing to assume the care of the pet? Children must have parental guidance to care for a pet regardless of their age. Each breed of animal has genetic characteristics that need to be considered. Have you researched the breed that you are interested in? Are you financially prepared for a pet? Consider the following expenses: spaying or neutering, basic veterinary care, flea preventative, heart worm preventative, license, food, grooming.
