Opal's Story

Meet Opal!

Opal is a beautiful red Foxhound mix, around 3 years old and just a bit taller than an average Beagle. She was found running in cane fields in the South along with other dogs — a heartbreakingly common fate for hunting dogs once they’re no longer needed.

When she first arrived, Opal was very scared and shut down. She is a sweet, gentle girl who is slowly learning to trust again. She is still fearful of new people and new situations, especially men, though she is generally more comfortable with women. With patience, kindness, and time, she has already made wonderful progress.

Opal loves other dogs and relaxes the most when she has a confident canine friend to play and run with. She lights up during yard playtime and clearly enjoys burning off her hound energy in a safe space.

Because of her fearfulness, Opal would do best in a quiet, adult-only home with an experienced, patient woman (or women-only household) who understands shy dogs and is willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace. A home with another dog would be a big bonus for her confidence.

This sweet red hound mix has so much love to give once she feels safe. If you have the patience and gentle heart to help a scared girl blossom, Opal could be the perfect match for you.

Adoption fee is $375 which helps cover all of the medical for all of the dogs in the rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped and many have received further treatment for such conditions as lump removal, severe ear infections, dental cleanings, bloodwork, leg injuries, etc..

We do out of state adoptions but require a submitted application, a home visit (sometimes we cannot get this done and then we can not adopt), and the adopter must come to Las Vegas to meet the potential dog(s), possibly adopt, and then drive the dog back.

Disclaimer: The SNBRF has the right to deny applications based on our adoption policies established for the consideration of the health, safety, and well-being of the dog. Beagles can have a lifespan of 15-18 years. Therefore, beagles or any other breed who are under 3 years of age will NOT be adopted to anyone over the age of 62. For individuals who are 70 years of age and older, the dogs must be 8 years or older

For more information or to submit an adoption application, please visit our website at http://www.southernnevadabeaglerescue.com . We are also on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SouthernNevadaBeagleRescueFoundation . Come meet and play with our available dogs at Las Vegas area dog parks. Times and locations can be found at http://www.meetup.com/beagles-207/ . Contact us or check our Facebook updates ahead of time if you are interested in meeting a particular dog. All our dogs are in foster homes so not all are available to attend all our park meetups.
Our meetup group playdates allow you to socialize your beagle with his/her own breed at dog parks with large fenced areas where the beagles can run and play off-leash. Beagle enthusiasts, come bay with us..... AROOOOOOOOOOOO!
