Onyx's Story

Meet Onyx — born 2/27/26 💙

If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate best friend, Onyx may just be your perfect match. This sweet boy is the definition of a cuddle bug and happiest when he’s curled up beside his people soaking up love and attention. He’s more “couch potato companion” than wild child, with an easygoing personality and a lovable lazy streak that makes him an easy-ish walking buddy. He does get chilly easily, but with a little more growing and filling out, he’ll be just fine!

Onyx is incredibly passive and sweet-natured — never the instigator, always the peacemaker. He truly aims to please and is already showing how smart he is! He learned “sit” in just one hour and now proudly shows off his trick anytime treats are involved. He even encouraged his sister Luna to learn it too!

This boy is AMAZING with kids. The fosters 5- and 6-year-olds can hold and cuddle him freely, and he’s perfectly content just being loved on. He’s also brave and adaptable — not bothered by the vacuum, mop, stairs, or loud household noises.

Onyx is currently working on potty training and is about 50/50 with pee pads, but he does great going outside and continues to improve every day. His favorite treats/toys are Yak cheese bones, and he’s always happy to settle down nearby with one after playtime.

Onyx would make an incredible addition to just about any family. He is truly sweet as pie and ready to bring endless love, cuddles, and companionship to his forever home.

If you are interested in one of our puppies, the first step is to go to our website and fill out an application. https://placingpawsrescue.org/applications/dog-application/

BEFORE CONSIDERING A PUPPY FOR ADOPTION: Please keep in mind that puppies need attention during the day. They need frequent potty breaks, playtime, socialization and often a mid day meal. Please consider your daytime schedule before applying for a puppy.

SPAY/NEUTER POLICY: Our adoption fee covers the puppies spay or neuter at our vet in Libertyville. If the puppy is adopted prior to the spay or neuter being done you will be required to bring the puppy back to our vet within 30 days for the surgery.

ADOPTION FEE: $500.00 The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations including rabies, HW test if age appropriate, de-worming, microchip, fecal, spay or neuter, Heartworm and flea and tick preventative.

ADOPTION PROCESS: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an application online at www.placingpawsrescue.org.
Once we review the applications, those applicants that are thought to be a good match will be contacted as quickly as possibly. We ask that you please be patient with us as we are all volunteers. Then a telephone interview will take place, references checked and a home visit will be conducted. We will then arrange for you to meet the dog. We require that all family members, including current dogs meet the dog prior to adoption. We put all of the known information in the animals description. If the animal is listed on the website, we are still accepting applications for that animal. We only remove the animal when the final adoption paperwork is signed. The best way to contact us is by email at placingpaws@yahoo.com. It is very difficult for the limited numbers of volunteers to return all calls. Thank you.
