Ollie's Story

Meet Mr. Ollie! The happiest boy in the land!

Ollie is a 10-year-old Beagle who came to us with his friend, Hank! They have lived outside, tethered to a pole for the last few years, but you'd never know it! They are both potty trained and learning basic commands at LIGHTNING SPEED! We don't recommend that Hank and Ollie go to the same home. Ollie is open to meeting other dogs, but may need to be fed separately. He was quite thin when he came to us, and we don't want him to ever worry again about whether someone will steal his food. We are unsure how he would do with kids or cats, but he is open to trying!

Ollie does have some special needs. Ollie is epileptic, meaning he occasionally has seizures. He is on a medication that he takes orally twice daily called Phenobarbital. Ollie takes his meds very easily, and they keep him seizure-free! Phenobarbital is an inexpensive medication! At the time of his neuter, Ollie's Vet found a testicular tumor. Most testicular tumors are malignant (cancerous), but thankfully act benign (non-cancerous), as only 10-15% of them spread to other parts of the body. More often than not, a neuter is considered "curative" for a testicular tumor, but we cannot be 100% positive on. We do know that Ollie is happy as all get out and absolutely thriving here! He may be considered a senior at 10 years old, but he sure acts like a young pup! He would LOVE a family to spend the rest of his life with. If he got to pick, he would pick a family that supplies lots of stuffy toys!

If you have any questions about Ollie's special considerations, please reach out to the SPCA-HC and ask to speak with Bella, the Director of Animal Care, for more information on him! As always, approved adopters are welcome to stop by anytime we are open to meet their new best friend!
