Our Mission

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Hancock County (SPCA) is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of animal welfare, to the protection, sheltering, and placement of companion animals into responsible, loving homes, to humane education in the community, and to local, state and national animal advocacy.

We are a life-saving shelter serving, first and foremost, local animal populations and pet owners.

Adoption Policy

We have lots of cats and dogs looking for their prrr-fect home! Once you’ve found a pet that strikes your fancy and you’ve spent some one-on-one time with him or her to see if you hit it off, we’ll ask you to fill out an application form (see links below). Our staff will go over it with you to make sure that you and your potential new pet are a good match. **Please note that during this COVID-19 outbreak, we are still taking adoption applications online or by mail. Unfortunately, we cannot schedule cat Meet-And-Greets at this time, meaning all cat adoptions are done "sight unseen" for now.**
