Meet Oh Sherrie - A Mother Mary Pup

Date into Rescue: 1/4/2024
Reason for being in rescue: born at CPR
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Patience and energy! This one is wide open. Sherrie is not spayed due to her age. She will be adopted on a spay/neuter addendum that requires you to spay her at your cost within 12 months.
Weight: 12 lbs now and growing daily. Best guess is around 50 or so when full grown. She is a big, robust girl
Height: 9 in now and heading to a good 24" or so when full grown
Spayed/Neutered: No. Sherrie is far too young for that just yet

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? Yes without exception. Sherrie needs a physically fenced yard. She is going to be a LOT of dog and she is going to need exercise and a place to run

What kind of home would be best for me? Sherrie has been raised with a ton of love, affection and human contact. ENS (early neurological stimulation) exercises helped to wake up her personality early on and the result is a little girl who thinks humans are way cool. She also thinks other dogs are cool, too, as long as they understand that even at the very young age of 8 weeks, Sherrie is the Leader of the Pack.

Sherrie's perfect home will have a gregarious and happy dog pal who is content to be a follower. We prefer another standard poodle, a male and under 10 years old. She is also looking for loving and doting human parents who believe that where they go, their dogs should go, too. We need someone who works from home or takes their dogs to work or is retired and looking for a constant companion and best friend. Sherrie believes in "it's a family affair" because she was raised that way. Being left alone all day won't work. She needs her people.

Sherrie is also looking for someone who will take her energy, her life enthusiasm and her intelligence and mold it into something amazing. I had someone ask me once to find them a dog that was truly and completely alive. Sherrie is that dog - she is truly and completely alive and she plans to own the world one day. I am looking for someone who will find out exactly what will make her little heart sing and take her there. Agility, rally obedience, scent work, barn hunt, therapy dog ? Sherrie is ready to try them all.

More than anything else, Sherrie needs a confident owner who will shape and mold this young life in a positive way. You need to love standard poodles and know all the things they are capable of. In inexperienced hands, Sherrie would run all over somebody. In hands and the heart that wants to love her and teach her well with nothing but positive and loving motivation, she will be amazing. But your going to have your hands full. It'll be so much fun.

What is my personality like? Wide open, full of energy and ready to be spoiled. Sherrie loves to be close to her people. Being held is okay although she does have enough independence to also be able to hang out near you, not on you. Sherrie was and continues to be the largest of her litter. At 12 lbs, her next largest sibling is only 8 lbs. She is a sturdy girl.

PUPPY POLICY:

Thank you for carefully considering the addition of a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience, but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. Since our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious with puppies. We like to stress 3 major things when considering a puppy vs. an adult dog: 1) many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who find themselves in rescue through no fault of their own, 2) adult dogs are eager to share their love and bond with their new family, and 3) puppies will always require far more time, energy, and training than an adult dog.
Our ideal puppy adopters are:
-experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets
-scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day and have another canine companion already in the home
-stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc)

How do I act when I first meet new people? Puppies love everyone.

Other tips and tidbits: Sherrie's exact birthdate is 1/4/2024. His mother came to us when the then owner, the owner of a popular stud dog, rescued her mom. She did not get mom spayed in time and her stud dog did what he does best . She realized she is much happier being the proud paternal grandma instead of having puppies everywhere so reached out for help. We happily took Mother Mary in and helped her bring her babies into the world. Mother Mary will be spayed in approximately 3 weeks and ready for adoption also. Sherrie loves her mother very much. She is a good mother and has taken great care of the litter but has also told us it's time for them to make their own way into the world.

We have not yet introduced Sherrie to cats.

House trained? Sherrie is too young yet for formal house training but we're starting crate training (all feeding is now in the crate) and pee pad training at night.

Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
