Odie's Story

Hello, my name is Odie! My sister and I were living in a gravel yard in Detroit until C.H.A.I.N.E.D. INC discovered us and brought us here to FMAR to find our forever homes!

Everyone at FMAR had a feeling that I was some type of Hound. A DNA test confirmed that I am a hound, and some other breeds too!
48% Treeing Walker Coonhound
28% Boxer
10% American Staffordshire Terrier
4% Bulldog
4% American Bulldog
Whew! What an interesting mix!

I am a very sweet boy who loves attention from people. I may be a little shy at first as I am still getting used to the outside world, but with time and patience I would make the perfect family companion. Even though I'm a pretty big boy, I am super gentle and would fit in perfectly with a home that has children. I have recently discovered what grass is and my favorite thing to do here is run around the grass yards with my ears flopping in the wind. I like to play and walk with other dogs, but I do not want to share my food with them, so I would need to be the only dog in the home.

I am patiently waiting for my forever home, could you be the one?

If you would like to meet me, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. I am neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. My adoption fee is $250, which helps cover some of the cost of the medical care I have received.

**Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

He has been out with a couple volunteers for a DDO (Dogs Day Out) and here are some things that they said about him.....

Odie is a very gentle guy.? In the shelter, he's very alert but outside of the shelter he's very calm and quiet. He is a little shy and insecure so he may need some extra time getting comfortable in a new home.

He LOVES ??being in the yards and he's so much more confident when he's outside ?. He walks well with and without the nose lead but can and will pull if he sees something he wants. I was determined to get him comfy on the bed and after bribery? & a couple tries he got up there on his own and proceeded to snooze for 8 hours straight. He slept through the night without requiring a bathroom break. Now he is very uncomfortable with the car. ?He was able to relax eventually thanks to Disney piano songs and a one-side therapy session, but he will need some more exposure to cars, car rides as well as the stairs. ? Handsome to boot ?he's going to make someone (or a family) very happy!
