Oats - Special Needs

Currently fostered in Ontario, Canada. <br/><br/>Oats is a big, gorgeous Black & Tan Coonhound with a hearing problem. He is not entirely deaf, but he often doesn't hear you, and he startles when you accidentally surprise him. He even occasionally gives a low growl when he is surprised. Because of his disability, he should not live with children. He doesn't appear to like roughhousing with people. He needs a calm and tolerant home, with another dog or two in the family. Oats does well with both large and small dogs. <br/><br/>Oat's foster family has provided a lot of training. He is absolutely wonderful walking on a leash, right next to you calmly, and doesn't get overexcited when other dogs come into view. Oats is also crate trained and house trained. He loves to play with toys. Oats loves to eat pears and raspberries in the garden and we think he would like other fruits too. He is a delightful companion.<br/><br/>Oats guards all of his food/treats from humans, so he should always eat and get treats inside of his crate. However, he gently shares his treats with any visiting dogs! <br/><br/>Oats cannot have an e-collar or underground fence collar. These collars terrify him and set him back for days. Not even the vibrate setting can be used. We can't adopt him to a family who uses these collars. He started life as a hunting dog in Kentucky.
