Oakley's Story
Meet Oakley, an eight-month-old Alaskan Malamute/German Shepherd mix weighing 65 pounds.

Oakley is a big, sweet, dorky boy who is just beginning to learn what the world is all about. He came to us after being seized by Animal Control along with six other dogs, and it’s clear that everything outside of his previous indoor life is brand new and a little overwhelming for him right now.

Despite his uncertainty, Oakley is incredibly loving. He is still very much a baby at heart—big in size, but soft, gentle, and full of curiosity. He soaks up attention whenever he feels safe and enjoys being near people who offer him kindness and reassurance.

Oakley is still unsure about the leash and the outside world can feel confusing to him, but he is trying his best. With patience, encouragement, and a steady routine, he will continue to gain confidence and learn that new experiences don’t have to be scary.

This affectionate boy just needs someone willing to show him the way. In the right home, Oakley has all the makings of a loyal, loving companion who will blossom with time and trust.

And of course—those big ears are impossible not to fall in love with!

This pet is available for adoption on 6.23.26 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.

Did you know YHS offers a "Play Date" program?
Whether you are interested in adopting or just want to hang out with a furry friend, it's a fun way to spend an hour, an afternoon or even a couple days.
