What’s not to love about this hunka man? Oakley is a hefty long hair dachshund. And when we say hefty, we mean hefty! Oakley is a tad overweight (but we whisper around him so we won’t hurt his feelings). The dude weighs a whopping 28 lbs okay! But he is a lover. He loves being rubbed and will usually roll over on his back for some tummy scratches. Oakley gets along with other dogs and while we are unsure about cats, we don’t see him having much motivation to chase. Oakley came to us from a nearby shelter after his previous owner passed away. We are pretty sure Oakley was given his share of table food and the vet has him on a “dog food only, no treats” diet. Which Oakley gives a thumbs down to. Oakley had quite a bit of flea dirt when we got him and scratched a lot. Our vet did not believe he suffered from severe allergies but he might have an allergy to fleas and scratch if left untreated. He may need further treatment for this and at some point, may need medication. Oakley likes toys but not the kind you have to fetch. He wants toys that come right to him that he can chew on. Oakley likes going outside and could use a family that would take him on regular walks or give him enough safe outside time to exercise. Oakley will go up a couple of stairs to get onto the porch but has not attempted to climb to the second floor of the house yet. Oakley will crate himself if he feels uncomfortable. He has a blanket and he likes to hide under it or lay on it. Oakley will need a family who can get him groomed regularly. He mostly just lays down for this process but then again, he mostly just lays down for everything. Oakley is neutered and up to date on his vaccines. He is microchipped.
