Nova / Melanie Husky Mix Yellowknife, NT

2 year old Nova and 5 year old Melanie are a bonded pair that have soft hearts and are looking for a quiet environment that will allow their lovely personalities to blossom. They are curious, full of love and just waiting for a patient person to take a chance on them. They are both still skittish when startled by loud and sudden sounds or movements, but they have made great strides in building their confidence compared to when they first arrived at the shelter. Melanie and Nova have been working on their social skills and have now made numerous dog friends during their time with us!

Melanie, the more confident one of the duo, tends to open up to new people and other dogs a lot quicker than Nova. She will often be the first to come up to take treats from your hand, and after a few walks may snuggle up for some soft pets. Nova often looks to Melanie for guidance, and if Melanie approves, he usually follows along. Once Melanie builds a bond with you, her silly personality shines. When her trusted staff come into her kennel, she'll run back and forth and excitedly boop you with her nose to say "I'm ready to go out"!

Though Nova is the shyer of the two, he has just as must love to give in his own way. He does a cute little trot with a gentle flicking tail when he's excited and once he's really comfortable with you, he can even get a bit sassy at times! He'll often talk to the staff members before walks, expressing all of his thoughts and feelings while still being the polite boy he is. Although he has made a lot of growth alongside Melanie, it'll be important that he also gets some independent time where he can learn to still feel confident without relying on Melanie to reassure him.
