Noelle - In Foster's Story
Meet Noelle. Also known as Ellie. Also known as proof that sometimes love, medicine, and snacks can completely change a life.

Noelle came into JPAWS as a stray on April 9th. When the shelter posted her picture online, our Programs Director Rachel immediately reached out asking if she could take her into foster care. Something about Noelle’s little bald head struck a chord with her. Rachel has a soft spot for transformations and helping dogs with terrible skin finally feel comfortable enough to grow their hair back and just… be happy again.

We officially got Noelle on April 16th and immediately brought her to Wisdom Animal Hospital to start figuring out what this poor girl needed.

And honestly? She was in rough shape.

She screamed in pain during parts of her exam. We had to put a cone on her just so we could safely examine some areas because her skin was so inflamed and sensitive. One of her toenails had curled around almost TWO full circles. Literally ram horns. It was one of those things where everyone in the room collectively went, “Oh my God.”

But here’s the amazing part.

In just TEN DAYS, Noelle’s hair already started growing back on her face. Ten days. It is amazing what medicated baths, antibiotics, allergy medications, good food, and basic comfort can do for a dog who clearly had been suffering for a very long time. There is absolutely no way she became as bald and uncomfortable as she was overnight.

And the biggest transformation honestly wasn’t even physical.

It was HER.

Within days, her entire demeanor changed. This girl has SO much personality. She is hilarious. Sassy. Happy. Opinionated. She struts around the house like she’s just thrilled to finally feel good. At her vet rechecks, the staff could not believe how different she already looked and acted.

Also… girl LOVES to eat.

Noelle came to us underweight and has probably gained about 5 pounds since entering foster care because she has decided every meal may potentially be her last and she intends to make the most of it.

Our vet estimates she is around 7-8 years old. She is thankfully heartworm negative and gets along fine with other dogs, though she would also probably be perfectly happy as the center of attention in her own home because honestly? Her personality is big enough to fill one.

She still needs to be spayed, but we are planning to do her dental procedure at the same time since her mouth needs attention too. That surgery is scheduled a bit farther out because the surgeon will need extra time for both procedures.

We are not entirely sure what breed mix Noelle is, but whatever is in there… it is A LOT of hair. As her coat continues filling back in, she will need a home committed to maintaining her skin health with good food, medicated baths, allergy management, and likely regular grooming.

What makes Noelle so special is that despite everything she came from, she lives completely in the moment. She doesn’t sit around feeling sorry for herself. She is just genuinely happy to feel better. Happy to eat. Happy to trot around the house. Happy to feel soft blankets. Happy to have her nails no longer curling into oblivion. Happy to hear her little feet tap on the floor when she walks.

And honestly, watching a dog come in so neglected and still choose joy that quickly is something really special.

If you would like to meet Ellie, please send a completed application to our Programs Director and his foster mom to Rachel@jeffersonspca.org.

Adoption fee includes vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, microchip and a heartworm test. Any dog that tests positive for heartworms can be treated through our Fix-A-Heart Program. Adopter has to buy a year supply of heartworm prevention before treatment begins.

Please note: this application is view-only in Dropbox and must be downloaded to your device to be completed. You may fill it out using a PDF editing program or print it and complete it by hand. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ahiajf6e6i0ox2hdl09jk/JSPCA-Application_2.0-Newest-Updates.pdf?rlkey=be9he1julh02etikl021k9plk&dl=0

All adoptions subject to approval.
