Niko's Story
Niko is quite the little character. He is another Dillingham Delight who was adopted and loved but recently returned due to a family situation. A little history - after Niko was initially rescued, we discovered gangrene in the muscles of his arm pit and his front leg. Even tho’ there was a possibility his leg would be amputated, we opted to devote ourselves to daily treatment and medication. Gotta admit, it was a nasty mess but thanks to our vet, foster parents (who performed the daily treatments) and Niko’s patience as well as endurance for months, he is still a four-legged little dynamo who is healthy and happy. This little guy is adventuresome; listens well; loves to play so “game on” but sometimes delights in playing “catch me if you can”; potties outside; very playful with the other dogs but can be kinda feisty sometimes; somewhat leash trained; knows minimal commands; kennel trained; not cat tested; does ok with big dogs who are small dog friendly; likes pets and cuddles but somewhat independent too; enjoys zooming around a fenced yard (which is required); friendly; not real barky; lively; a bit stubborn; loves treats and amusing in so many ways. He will need some training but all in all, he’s awesome great little guy. Cuz he’s a Shih Tzu mix, he requires regular grooming. We’ve enjoyed fostering Niko (he’s been awesome) but he would really be happier and blossom in a home of his own. Niko would do best in an adult home or home with older dog-friendly kids (no small children); a secure fenced yard; definitely needs another fur play buddy. Inspite of all he has suffered, he’s a delightful, sweet natured little guy. Thinking you’d like to adopt this charming, enthusiastic little dude, email kkcalaska@gmail.com and request an adoption application. (We do require a completed adoption application prior to all adoptions.).
Niko won the vet staff’s hearts too - they were amazed he endured the treatment to save his leg for so long and yet remained a happy little trooper. They were also amazed the leg healed completely and was saved (it was doubtful for awhile) - today no one would ever know Niko ever had such a medical issue. He’s amazing! He will always have a special place in our hearts!
Do you see a canine companion you’d like to adopt? - email Carol at kkcalaska@gmail.com and we will gladly send you an adoption application! ?????
