Nikki German Shepherd Dog Mix Palatine, IL

Since arriving at SCCR with a leg wound and some big time nerves, Nikki has progressed beautifully, adjusting more and more every day. She just needed a family who understood that she’s a dog who needs to do things at her own pace and will settle in once she’s ready and comfortable.

Nikki thrives in a predictable routine. Her crate is her safe place during the day, especially when her people are out of the house, which she truly doesn’t mind and provides her some peace and quiet to watch out the window or take a snooze.

At night Nikki would rather sleep on the couch, but not before she does her quick bedtime check, patrolling the kids’ rooms to make sure they’re safe and gives foster mom a quick kiss to let her know all is well. You won’t need a baby monitor with this sweet girl around!

She follows “house rules” like a pro. She only chews and plays with toys, barks only as an alert, is potty trained, ignores human food and can learn things with 1 repetition. Seriously, just 1 repetition. This girl is S-M-A-R-T smart!

Nikki takes very slow intros and prefers laid back but still fun dogs. She just asks that any dog siblings respect her crate and her personal space.

With her kind and patient foster family, Nikki has gotten so sweetly affectionate, using her paw to pull them in close for pets, an absolute heart melter.

Nikki is just a smart 2 year old, medium-sized sweetheart looking for her forever. She won’t be the easiest dog as she adjusts but she is unbelievably rewarding, loyal and special.
