Nicky (AP26-78)'s Story
Nicky is undergoing treatment for heart worm. She will need to return to NMDR for her treatment. Adopters must strictly follow treatment plan as laid out by the NMDR veterinarians.

Meet Nicky- a brave poodle ready to move into her forever home.

Prior to arriving at NMDR, sweet Nicky endured 8 years in a breeding facility where she lost her vision, suffered a severely fractured jaw which had to be removed, and was infected with heartworm disease. However, through it all, she has not lost her courage or bravery.

Though blind, she loves exploring and spending time outside. She navigates her environment without issue. Nicky enjoys riding in the car and going for walks in a stroller. But her all time favorite spot is her donut bed. This is her safe space and where she can most often be found.

Nicky responds well to verbal commands and will love someone who will talk to her throughout the day so she feels included.

Nicky gets along great with other dogs and can often be found cuddling with her foster sisters. Her potty training is coming along great when taken outside consistently. She is working on leash training, but will need continued help with this in her forever home.

Because she is missing her lower jaw, she does require a special, gruel diet which she needs 4 times a day. She will also need to return to NMDR several times for her heartworm treatment, so she is looking for a local family who can provide this care.

Many dogs would have given up when faced with the suffering Nicky has endured. But this sweet, resilient girl never gave up. Her unbroken spirit demonstrates a zest for life and an unwavering ability to overcome obstacles. Though initially a little shy, with continued time and patience, she will grow into the amazing pet that she deserves to be.
------
Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!
