Nicky's Story

Because we are all volunteers, Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus only considers approved applicants to meet our orphans in our foster homes. Please read our eligibility requirements and apply on our website: www.ildoberescue.com/adopt. After an application is submitted, additional inquiries can email dobes@ildoberescue.com.

Meet Nicky!

Poor Nicky — this sweet, young male Doberman ended up at Chicago Animal Care & Control with a leg injury, but he’s all healed up now and ready for his second chance.

At 4 years old and about 65 pounds, Nicky is an all-natural Doberman with soft velvet ears and a constantly wagging tail. He’s truly a people dog — he loves everyone he meets and is especially gentle and affectionate with kids. He’s been wonderful with his foster’s grandkids and thrives on human attention.

Nicky also has a protective, loyal side. Recently, while out on a walk, a car approached a little too close and Nicky instinctively stepped in front of his handler and held his ground until the car passed. We suspect this may be connected to the accident that originally injured him, but it also shows just how devoted he is to his people.

He gets along great with other dogs and loves to play — wrestling matches in the living room are one of his favorite pastimes!

Nicky is still a work in progress in a couple areas. He’s not fully potty trained yet but is making steady progress and starting to catch on. He also strongly dislikes being crated and has managed to break out before, so a home that doesn’t rely heavily on crating (or is willing to work on positive crate training) would be ideal.

With a little patience and consistency, Nicky is going to make an incredibly loving and loyal companion. He’s already proven how big his heart is — now he just needs a family to call his own.

We look forward to working with you. IDR+ is a network of foster homes; therefore, we do not have a location to visit. The first step in meeting our adoptable animals is the specific application at www.ILDobeRescue.com for a Doberman, Plus dog (non-Dobe), or cat. Approved adopters are then directed to our foster homes.
