Nibbles $99 ADOPTION FEE's Story
Born October 12, 2025 and weighing in at 2.5kg | 5.5 pounds, March 21, 2026 and slowly weight gaining, Nibbles was at risk of euthanasia with his owner because he had some health struggles they didn't have the funding to fact find.

His owner surrendered him to a Canadian shelter & Mattie's Place welcomed him and had him admitted on arrival to Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital where he had a CT Scan and was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus.

Hydrocephalus is a neurological issue Nibbles was born with, which is an excess of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that has leaked inside the skull, leading to brain swelling.

COST FOR DIAGNOSIS: $5,528.84

Nibbles was discharged from his hospital stay with medication; Prednisone 5mg/ml ($26.75) and Omeprazole 10mg/ml ($29.00) for a 1 month supply. He will require medication for life and it just may change over the years for dosing or new medication added/removed.

We have seen significant improvement since he started his medication March 26th and we expect to see continued improvement over the coming weeks. He will have a follow up appointment with his neurologist in April just for a check-in as he's showing improvement.

It's really a waiting game now to see how much improvement Nibbles will show. Since being medicated, we believe he can now see shadows, his hearing has improved and he is much brighter and more aware of his surroundings and interactions.

He will never be a dog without special needs, but he is absolutely adoptable and can go on to live an amazing life with hydrocephalus.

The lifespan of a dog with hydrocephalus varies significantly based on severity and treatment. We expect Nibbles to have a normal life expectancy with his medicated support. But of course, with any illness or disease, there is no crystal ball and things can turn in a moment and that's to be understood prior to adoption.

January 8, January 22 & February 5 he was vaccinated with his owner. His rabies vaccine is outstanding, which will be completed with Mattie's Place.

There is heightened anesthesia risks for dogs with hydrocephalus, so I will not be neutering Nibbles at this time, but I will speak with his neurologist again at his recheck and a final determination will be made at that time on his rescue neuter.

Nibbles will require a regular professional groom, so be sure that's budgeted when considering adoption.

Nibbles is a GREAT boy. He will make a beautiful companion.

His best matched home would be a quiet space, no young children. Another dog of equal size only, or he can also be a solo dog. A secured backyard so he can enjoy being off-leash safely.

His previous medical records & owner state he's a Bichon Frise. I'm not sure about that but he could be a mix, I suppose.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Meet Nibbles ā The RoutineāLoving, WWEāDreaming Sweetheart. Get ready for this one, because Nibbles is about to steal your heart.

Nibbles is a creature of habit in the most endearing way. Every morning, between 7ā8am, he politely lets you know itās time to start the day. No drama, no fuss, just a sweet āhey, Iām readyā vibe.

Place him on the grass and he gets right to business like the responsible little man he is. Once heās done, he celebrates with a few joyful victory laps, sniffs the morning breeze, and explores whatever the wind brings his way before trotting back to his pickāup zone like the distinguished gentleman he believes himself to be.

Letās be clear: Nibbles does not play around when it comes to breakfast.
He has a nose that could rival a truffleāhunting pig, and he absolutely refuses to be left out of the morning routine. Breakfast is a highlight of his day, and heāll remind you with the sweetest determination.

After breakfast? Nap.
After playtime? Nap.
After dreaming about his next nap? Another nap.

He takes several 1ā2 hour snoozes throughout the day and has truly perfected the art. When he wakes up, heās ready to hydrate, head outside, or show his toys the WWE wrestling moves he was clearly practicing in his dreams.

Weāre talking full body slams, dramatic flips. His toys never see it coming.

Nibbles does wonderfully in his crate and is perfectly content snoozing on his own. Heās an easy, adaptable sleeper. But give him a circular bed and he becomes a poet at heart; itās his happy place. And if you set that bed near your feet while you work or watch TV, heāll gladly curl up there and sleep. Not because he needs constant attention, but because he genuinely enjoys the quiet comfort of being near his people. His presence is calm, sweet, and never demanding.

If Nibbles isnāt napping, heās looking for a buddy; dog or human to play with. He adores companionship, gentle pets, and being pampered. Wipe his paws or clean his face and heāll thank you with a flurry of kisses that could melt even the iciest heart.

Nibbles may not see the world perfectly, but he experiences it beautifully.
He loves to explore, sniffing everything on his adventures like a tiny, determined explorer mapping out his kingdom.

Because his vision is limited, he will occasionally bump into a wall or piece of furniture, but this has improved dramatically since day one. Heās learning his surroundings quickly and gaining confidence every single day.

Nibbles is still working on his potty training and may have the occasional accident. But the improvement from day one has been remarkable. With routine, patience, and consistency, heās showing just how eager he is to learn.

Nibbles is generally a quiet pup, but heāll sometimes let out a little bark during the day, usually because he wants his favourite butt scratch or simply wants to know youāre nearby. Itās never excessive, just his gentle way of checking in.

Thereās something about Nibbles that gets people. Maybe itās his gentle routines, his tiny bursts of joy, or the way he quietly checks in with you. He doesnāt try to charm, he just is charming.

Everyone who meets him feels it. His sweetness sneaks up on you, and before you know it, heās stolen your heart in that effortless, Nibblesāonly way.

----------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting.
