Meet Nia, an incredibly loving and resilient pup in search of her forever home! Nia was surrendered to a Chicago shelter after caring neighbors discovered her locked outside in a cramped cage. She had clearly given birth to at least one litter of puppies, and her fur was marked with unknown scars that told a story of utter neglect. In spite of all this, Nia's spirit remains unbroken and she still has so much love to give.

Nia is a natural with kids, displaying a gentle and nurturing disposition towards the active 1 and 4-year-old children in her current foster home. She also gets along well with cats, making her a wonderful addition to families with furry feline friends. When it comes to relaxation, Nia is a certified couch potato. She loves snuggling up on the sofa, melting into you like a smooshy heap of warmth and affection.

But don't let her A+ lounging fool you; Nia has a playful side too, and each night she takes a few minutes to leap around with foolish abandon before collapsing into a happy, content heap on the floor. It's a delightful display of pure joy!

Nia can be dog selective, but has also done well with proper introductions to other dogs and shows no reactivity on leash. She is slowly gaining the confidence to take longer walks without wanting to rush home, but we think a single-family house with a fenced-in yard would be the ideal environment for her (she loves to lounge in a sun puddle in the yard!). Nia is an excellent guard dog, alert at the window or fence to protect from intruders. However, the moment you step inside, her wagging tail and playful flop indicate her true nature—a gentle and affectionate soul eager for pets.
