Nelson Border Collie & Retriever Mix Palatine, IL

Ah, Nelson. This 7 month old male Border Collie mix has a coat that is softer than silk and slides through your fingers as you pet him. His deep, expressive eyes are kind and have a distinct sense of calm about them.

Despite his young age, Nelson is a submissive, well-mannered little gentleman. He is learning commands and has already picked up on his name and sit. He is crate-trained and will go in without a fuss if told to "get in your house.” Nelson sleeps in his crate all night without whining and eats his meals in there as well.

This handsome guy is great with little kids and takes care not to be too rambunctious with them. Nelson loves other dogs, and can play and roughhouse all day with his dog friends. He seemed to have a calming effect on a very stressed dog in his foster home, and gently showed her the ropes, giving her confidence in an unfamiliar territory. He is also great with cats, letting his feline friends go about their business without chasing or bothering them.

Nelson is an excellent adventure companion and loves to explore new places! He’s a champion copilot and enjoys car rides. Nelson would love an active home where he can be part of the daily goings-on. He welcomes the challenge of learning new skills, and would benefit from a home that will continue to provide ongoing training.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, you must send an application or email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org prior to a Saturday Adoption Event so we know you plan on attending. If we do not receive any communication from you, the dog may be adopted out at our event prior to 12 pm if the perfect home comes along. :-)

The breed or breed mix listed for each dog is simply a guess. The profile software program requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. However, visual breed identification is unreliable. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog’s individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess. Dogs are individuals.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near Chicagoland... we are sorry but we cannot accept any out of state applications. We look forward to speaking with you!
