Negra's Story
Negra was dropped off by an owner at one of the highest kill and most overcrowded pounds in America. Good old Kern County, good old Californians. Did she look back? NO! It so happened we had a transport coming the next day and we got her on. Her chances otherwise were bleak. Only 6, sweet and handsome.
Turns out she is a GREAT dog, happy and friendly to all and waggy and adores big Sadie. She is frisky and feisty and loads of joy. A very nice family dog ready to take on new adventures. She heterochromia. Her blue odd eyes are intriguing.

Heterochromia in dogs is a harmless genetic condition where a dog has two different-colored eyes or multiple colors within a single eye.

What causes It?
Melanin variations: The color difference comes from uneven levels or distribution of melanin (the pigment that colors eyes, skin, and coat) in the iris.

Inherited traits: Most cases are congenital (passed down by parents) and show up fully by 16 weeks of age.

Coat patterns: It is often linked to genes that create merle, dapple, or white spotting patterns, especially if white fur appears near the head.

Types of Heterochromia

Complete (Heterochromia Iridis): The two eyes are totally different colors, such as one blue and one brown.

Sectoral (Parti-eyed): A single eye contains two or more distinct colors, like a blue section mixed into a brown iris.

Central: The inner ring around the pupil is a different color than the outer border of the iris
