Meet Neela

NEELA is 8 years old and weighs 65 pounds.

I need to straighten something out about me before we go any further. I am not a German Shepherd, but a White Swiss Shepherd. Yup, we are different breeds. We only come in white, for one and, we were never raised to be guard dogs like regular German Shepherds. We are more of a family dog. I may bark when someone comes over, but then I am done!

We also tend to be shy/nervous and need to be socialized slowly with other dogs. I have only been socialized with one other dog and that took a long time. They tell me I am “dog reactive”, which just means that I prefer to be an “only” and if/when I am going to be around strange dogs I need to be on a leash and I will need a little extra space please. I'm just not a "dog park" kinda dog.

I also do not (!) care for small animals (squirrels, chipmunks, chickens, and the like). I’m sorry, but they just tweak something in my brain that makes me go after them. The two-leggeds here keep saying something about a “high prey drive”. So, for the safety of everyone, it's best that I don’t interact with them in any off-leash situations. Okay, I feel better now that I got that off my chest!

Partly due to my interest in those small critters, I am known as Houdini at home. I will therefore REQUIRE a securely fenced yard. In my spare time, I love to figure out how to escape so I can chase those varmints. You see, I’m not just a pretty face, I am also quite clever.

I love people and do well with older children, if they are gentle. I am kind of a homebody and don’t really enjoy trips away - it makes me nervous, and I cry a little when I am away from home (particularly if there are other animals around). I know myself well enough to be able to admit that. However, I so love to get outside to walk and explore so please do take me for walks! I also am quite a fan of having my butt scratched (really who isn’t?).

Overall, I am a happy, healthy dog that would really enjoy a slower pace of life, where there aren’t a lot of comings and goings, and there are no other pets. My person told SDRO that everyone who has ever cared for me (boarding staff, vets, vet techs etc.) has raved about how good natured I am. Maybe you have the perfect homelife for me, and I can show you just what a wonderful dog I am. If you are patient and dote on me, I promise I will be the most loyal friend you could find.

INTERESTED in NEELA? The first step is to fill out our online Adoption Application (address link below)

NOTE: All of our dogs live in foster homes so it is not possible to setup a meet and greet prior to submitting an adoption application. Filling out an application doesn't obligate you to adopt, but it does save your place in line if there are multiple people interested.

ADOPTION APPLICATION (Type or cut & paste the below website address into your browser): http://www.sdroregon.com/adoption-application.htm

If our Adoption Coordinator determines you are a good match they will contact you. This is a great opportunity for you to find out more about NEELA and decide if you would like to setup a meet and greet.

ADOPTION FEE is $150, and there’s a 10% Discount for Senior Citizens and Veterans.

Learn more about the ADOPTION PROCESS here (Type or cut & paste the below website address into your browser): http://www.sdroregon.com/adoption-process.htm

We apologize, but we are not able to answer individual questions about our dogs. We are a small, all-volunteer organization and we receive hundreds of inquiries. If you want to learn more about a particular dog, then please submit an Adoption Application. If your application is chosen, you will have the opportunity to meet the dog and to get answers to all of your questions. Thank you for your understanding.
