Nala Jean's Story
Strong, active female searching for an equally strong and active companion to go on adventures.

Nala (aka Nala Jean) is currently the longest-term resident at the Pet Friends shelter, which has earned her the nickname "The Queen." She came to us in 2022 after being picked up as a stray by animal control. At that time, they believed she was between a year and two years old, so she has spent more than half her life at the shelter. In the interest of full disclosure, Nala is a dog that needs someone special as an adopter for a couple of reasons. She is very reactive to other dogs, so she will must be an "only four-legged child" plus live in an environment where she can't interact with neighbor dogs. A yard with a fence is important, and that fence needs to be high, because Nala is a world class jumper. Nala also needs time to get used to new people (particularly men), so we use a process of slow introductions over several weeks when new volunteers start at the kennel (and we will share the process with any potential adopters). So, what is the reward for someone who can cater to Nala's special needs? Once she gets to know you, Nala is the most loveable dog you ever want to meet. She will shower you with sloppy kisses and be the most affectionate companion you could ever want. Every volunteer who has gone through the "Meet Nala" process will tell you proudly that they are a member of Nala's circle of friends and how much they love her. As far as her other qualities, Nala knows basic obedience commands and she walks very well on a leash, but as you can see from her photos, she is built like a weightlifter and will occasionally pull you toward something she wants to see or sniff. One of her favorite activities is going for a car ride, where she is extremely well-behaved and happily watches the world go by out the car windows. There is a person or family for this special pup out there and she will be a wonderful addition to the right home, but if you want to know more about Queen Nala Jean, we will be happy to answer your questions.
