Nala's Story

Meet Nala, a 4–5-year-old mantle Great Dane who is equal parts regal queen, dramatic diva, and professional licker. If you’ve ever wished for a dog who loves you just a little more, Nala takes that as a personal challenge. She is elegant, affectionate, and occasionally ridiculous in the most endearing ways.

Nala’s story began when she was surrendered to an Alabama shelter after she squabbled with a tiny-breed dog she’d lived with for years. The situation ended tragically for the little dog, so Nala was dropped off at the shelter. We stepped in, scooped her up, and promised her a fresh start.

Today, she lives with three male Danes and does great with them—so long as the interaction is on her terms. She’s happy to lick, bug, poke, and pester them whenever she pleases, but instantly returns to full diva mode if they dare do the same. A queen requires boundaries, after all.

What Nala lacks in tolerance for dog shenanigans, she makes up for with her overwhelming devotion to her humans. This girl loves her people with the intensity of a thousand suns. If she knows you’re home, she will find you. She once even jumped through a screened window to get to her foster dad—not to escape, but simply because being separated from her human for three whole minutes was unacceptable.

She loves cuddle time, prefers human companionship over dog companionship, and wants nothing more than to be by your side.

She also licks. A lot. She licks herself, she licks you, she licks the other dogs—she’s basically a Roomba with a tongue. It’s her way of self-soothing, and with some redirection and good chew options, she’s learning to tone it down.

Indoors, she’s working on her house manners and doing well with structure and training. Outdoors, she shines. Nala is wonderful on leash and looks fabulous doing it, and she would absolutely prefer a fenced yard where she can run, zoom, and stretch those long legs with the big boys.

Because she has a high prey drive, Nala is not a match for any home with small dogs, cats, or pocket pets. She’s a big-dog-only girl with big feelings and a big heart. She’ll thrive in a home experienced with large breeds—someone who understands that a queen needs structure, love, and maybe the occasional closed window she can’t jump through.

Nala is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to begin her next chapter as someone’s adored, spoiled house princess. Her adoption fee is $350.

Nala is fostered in Milton, Florida.

To read over the requirements before applying to adopt Nala, please visit www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters must pick up their dog in person from the foster home.

Our Great Danes require a sturdy fenced in yard, particularly young or active danes. Generally, a six-foot or higher privacy fencing is preferred. In certain circumstances, the Board may waive this requirement depending upon the Dane's personality and temperament. Any such exceptions will solely be at the discretion of the Rescue Board. Under no circumstances will we consider invisible or electric fencing as acceptable. 6. We only adopt Dogs as indoor pets. We will not adopt Dogs to be used as guard dogs or to be kept out-of-doors. 7. A home visit is required for ALL adoptions, without exception. This is not a white-glove inspection, rather it is to ensure that the home is a safe environment for the Great Dane. 8. We do not transport. If you are applying from out of area or out of state, understand that if your application gets approved, you will be expected to pick up the dane in the location that he/she is being fostered.
