Murphy

Murphy is a possible Flat-Coated Retriever mix around 1 year old and weighing 48 pounds. He was recently adopted but was returned to our shelter through no fault of his own. Unfortunately, his adopter experienced health issues that made it impossible to continue caring for him.
Murphy hasn't had an easy start in life, and he's been let down more than once. When he first arrived, he was shy, distrustful, and unsure of people. With time, patience, and kindness, we watched that nervous young dog turn into an affectionate, playful goofball!
Murphy is still very much a puppy, with plenty of energy, curiosity, and a little mischief thrown in! He loves going for walks, keeps his kennel clean, and is absolutely convinced that 48 pounds is the perfect size for a lap dog.
Murphy needs patience, understanding, consistency, and boundaries as he continues learning about the world around him. New people and unfamiliar situations can still make him unsure, so giving him time to settle and build trust is important.
Murphy has done well with most dogs he's met. As for cats? Well, he thinks they're just a little too much fun to chase! A home without feline companions may be best.
Murphy hasn't had an easy start, and we're going to be firm about making sure his next chapter is different. He has been neutered, microchipped, 4DX tested and updated on his vaccines and preventatives.

Apply to adopt here:
https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
