Moxie's Story

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE AT: https://www.caninecastaways.org/adoption-application IF A PET IS LISTED THEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE - WE KEEP OUR LISTINGS UP TO DATE AND REMOVE AS SOON AS ADOPTED. NAME: Moxie BREED: Mixed breed SEX: female COLOR: tan AGE: 7 months as of Sept 2026 WEIGHT: 12 lbs as of Sept 22, 2026 SOME COOL INFORMATION ABOUT ME: Meet Moxie! Moxie is a 7-month-old, 12-pound girl who is still figuring out just how big and wonderful the world can be. Right now, Moxie is a very timid puppy. New people, new situations, and unfamiliar things can make her unsure, so we’re spending time helping her build confidence and learn that she doesn’t have to be afraid. She’s good with other dogs, and having canine friends around gives her opportunities to play, learn, and watch how the more confident dogs navigate the world. Because Moxie is still young and we’re still getting to know her, there’s plenty we haven’t discovered yet. Her personality is still unfolding, and we suspect there’s a lot more puppy hiding underneath that cautious exterior. What Moxie needs most is someone who understands that confidence isn’t something you can rush. A patient family willing to encourage her, celebrate the little victories, and give her the time she needs could make an enormous difference in her life. We are only considering homes in our local area - 1 hour or less from Arcadia FL. If you have adopted from us before and are slightly out of that area, please contact us directly and we can discuss it. Moxie still needs to be spayed. All appointments for spay/neuter surgery will be done at our vet's office in Arcadia so you must be willing to bring him to his appointment in order to be considered for adoption. Canine Castaways's Adoption Policy

Once your application is received, it will be forwarded to a volunteer to set up a home visit and check your references. It is important that all applicants understand that it is the policy of Canine Castaways, Inc. that all pets in a possible adoptive home be spayed/neutered prior to adoption unless there is a medical reason for not doing so and have an excellent veterinary history with your current/past pets. Once you are approved for a dog, you will be invited to meet the dog at a date and time convenient to the foster family or at an adoption event. Our goal is to place healthy, well-adjusted dogs. All of our dogs are vet checked including spayed or neutered; heartworm tested (preventive dispensed if negative and treatment started if positive); up to date on vaccinations (rabies, parvo, distemper); basic blood test performed; urinalysis; placed on flea/tick preventative if needed; intestinal parasite exam performed and treated accordingly; and provided with any other medical care necessary (dentals, surgeries, etc). All dogs have a numbered stainless steel Canine Castaways ID tag and are also microchipped for permanent identification. All vet records are provided to the adopter along with the remainder of the 6 month supply of heartworm preventive dispensed. Our adoption donation, which is normally $300 for an adult dog or $400 for a puppy, is to help offset these veterinary expenses. We also have reduced donations for senior dogs 8 years and older ($150). Our adoption contract allows for a dog to be returned within 30 calendar days for a full refund regardless of the reason; otherwise, all donations are non-refundable after that time. If any significant pre-existing undiagnosed medical problems arise within the first month after adoption, Canine Castaways will pay for treatment at Fur-Ever Friends in Arcadia. If for any reason you decide you no longer can keep your adopted dog, the dog MUST be returned to Canine Castaways.
