MOOSE ALERT! This 3 year old big boned boy embodies the best Saint Bernard characteristics including loving, goofy, and downright handsome! This unique dude with the black and white spotted ear is an absolute dream of an XL boy. Anyone who loves the extra big dogs is going to drool when they see that Moose is on the loose.<br/><br/>Moose was pulled from a Southern Ontario shelter where he spent over a month in an indoor kennel. During that time he became a staff favourite, always coming to the front of his run with a wagging tail and open grin. He has proven that his A+ behaviour assessment from the shelter is the real deal since coming to his Northern Dogs Project foster home. Moose has proven to be a social butterfly with his four legged foster clan made up of male and female foster dogs, and male and female home dogs. That being said, Moose spent time in another home for a few days and he and the XL male dog of the home did not jive, so Moose is best placed with female dogs in his forever home. <br/><br/>Twice a day, Moose loads himself into the dog van with his foster fam and heads to the 25 acre playground to run, sniff and explore nature. He often starts off galumphing up the side of the horse paddock but after his initial burst of energy, he usually gears down into a walk. He is trustworthy offleash and spends most of his time following the other dogs as they do dog things. While he isn't going anywhere when offleash, Moose is a free thinking breed with a big scent seeking machine on the end of his snout, so recall is more of an adjective than a verb for this guy. Only your expectations for German shepherd style recall can dampen the joy of watching this big galoot enjoy his senses. <br/><br/>Moose has good leash walking skills and has proven to be the furry Walmart greeter on town walks. He gives his big body lean freely to adults, both men and women, and he is gentle and curious with children. He has also been polite and social with dogs he meets and he seems to like sharing himself equally with everyone he meets. After being satiated, this big boy loves to have a deep, oversized nap on the floor because that's what he came from but he's starting to understand the added comfort of the big dog beds. Moose is the perfect house guest - housetrained and mannerly though he can be a bit of a hog of the AC vent which isn't a worry as we move into fall. He does not need or want a crate and can be left on his own in the house without worries.<br/><br/>Moose will thrive with a guardian who is experienced with extra large breeds and who wants to get to know a dorky, gorgeous, fun loving boy. Saint Bernards are not known to be slavishly obedient but rather to work independently in different situations. Let's be reals - these dogs have been bred for hundreds of years to save people using their physical strength, intelligence and ability to problem solve. While Moose is no mountain man, he is still a 150 pound being who can take you where he's decided he wants to go. <br/><br/>Moose's forever home will:<br/>-Be in the COUNTRY where offleash walks happen daily.<br/>-Include a guardian with XL dog experience and smarts. <br/>-Have another female dog, especially if she's a big white and brown fur sister because he seems to gravitate to same same. <br/>-Be near enough to water for wallowing visits. A pond would be sooooo awesome.<br/>-Be full on committed with a plan for integrating an XL stud who has his own ideas to incorporate too.<br/><br/>Moose can live with cats, horses, cows, chickens, and if you have a budgie, he can do that too. For anyone who loves and understands Saint Bernards, it's not a stretch to say that Moose is an incredible family member. In fact, country strong is a lot more fun with Moose by your side. <br/><br/>Moose is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, dewormed, and microchipped. His adoption fee $950.
