Moonpie's Story
Moonpie is a 5-year-old, 16-pound Dachshund, with a little Jack Russell thrown in for good measure. If you’re looking at her photos and thinking she doesn’t look much like a Dachshund, that might be because—forgive us for saying this of a lady—she’s fat!

Moonpie loves EVERYONE. She lives in a foster home with two other dogs—one of them a big dog—and she gets along well with both of them. She is fantastic with new people—not a bit of shyness in her. She wants everybody to pet her and tell her what a pretty girl she is. She’ll walk right up to strangers with a tail wag and a goofy doggy smile. She adapted to life in her new foster home instantly.

Do you have a lap? If so, Moonpie would like to sit in it. She’s very content to perch herself and snag a tummy rub or maybe get a behind-the-ear scritch. If you are very, very good, you might even snag a kiss from time to time.

As a 5-year-old, Moonpie has her manners down. She is housetrained and potty pad-trained. She is totally non-destructive. She will not chew on anything but her dog toys. Obviously, she is very food-motivated and so will be easy to train to the rules in your house. She is not barky. She’d be very happy to sleep in your bed but does equally well in a dog bed. She’s easygoing, always happy, and enthusiastic.

Because of her all-round good behavior, Moonpie would make a great apartment dog—so long as your apartment complex has a dog park so she can socialize and play with other dogs! She would do equally well in a home. She’d be a fine dog for a family, a couple or a single. She’ll get along fine with older children.

Moonpie came to us because her owner died. She was left in the house on her own for a month, with someone visiting once a day to feed her. She is clearly very grateful, in the way many dogs are, to leave that life behind and look forward to new adventures.

Moonpie’s adoption fee is $275 and includes spay, all shots & microchip. She is heartworm-negative and on heartworm medication.

Note:
We always respond first to inquiries that tell us something about your living situation (house, apartment, single, family, etc.) and why you want this dog. Be sure to include your phone number in your inquiry. We call inquiries that seem to be a good fit for the dog.
