Monty's Story

Meet Monty ☀️🐾
Chill. Snuggly. Snack-obsessed. Sun-powered.

Monty is the definition of easygoing sweetness. He walks beautifully on leash (no pulling!), is fully potty trained and housetrained, and does wonderfully with other dogs. He’s the kind of dog that quietly fits into your life and then suddenly you can’t imagine it without him.

His favorite hobby? Sunbathing.
If there’s a warm patch of grass or a ray of sunshine coming through the window, Monty will find it. He truly seems solar-powered. Sometimes, if the weather is especially nice, he may need a little gentle convincing to come back inside — because why leave paradise?

Monty loves attention, snacks, and chew toys — especially a good deer antler. He’s food motivated (big appetite, big enthusiasm), which makes training both fun and effective. He’s working on commands like “come” and “leave it,” and he definitely understands “no”... particularly when he’s mischievously swiped a shoe and immediately drops it when caught. 😉

He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but with calm introductions, he warms up nicely. He did great during a recent visit with a neighbor’s granddaughter. Once he feels safe, he’s affectionate, loyal, and always ready for pets or belly rubs.

Monty has become more playful as he’s settled in, though he can be a little awkward due to weakness in his back legs — possibly from an old injury. He can do a slow run and enjoys walks, but he may tire after longer outings or energetic play sessions. He can hop onto low furniture to be close to his people and absolutely loves a cushy bed or cozy couch spot.

He adores having a dog buddy and has been wonderful with his foster sister, Maggie — cuddling, following her around, and just enjoying companionship.

Monty is affectionate, quirky, playful in his own gentle way, and wonderfully calm. He doesn’t need chaos or marathon hikes. He needs sunshine, soft places to land, steady companionship, and someone who appreciates a dog who loves quietly but deeply.

If you’re looking for a laid-back best friend who will soak up the sun by day and snuggle by night — Monty is ready. 💛
