Monty's Story

Monty is a gentle giant with a heart every bit as big as he is. At around 6 years old, Monty is the kind of dog who is happiest simply being near his people, enjoying some pets, heading out for a leisurely walk, and living life at his own pace. And trust us… Monty absolutely has his own pace.

Last weigh in, this handsome guy tipped the scales at 163 pounds, though he’s already started working on his weight loss journey. Monty is looking for a home committed to helping him continue losing weight and feeling his best. He enjoys walks and would love a family that can help keep him moving while also appreciating that he’s more a steady stroll type of guy than marathon training partner.

Monty is fairly quiet overall, but he does have one important announcement each morning: breakfast time. Expect a signature howl from him when he believes the food service is running behind schedule. Monty is crate trained and uses his crate as his safe place, he is also fully house trained.

We think Monty would do best as an only, but has the potential to live with other pets. He is coexisting his fosters laid back small dog who respects his space and doesn’t want to play. He does well with his fosters cats and with older, respectful kids.. Monty can show some barrier aggression with other dogs when separated by fences, crates, or barriers, but he has not shown aggression toward people.

Like many giant breeds, Monty has a stubborn streak and firmly believes life should happen on Monty Time, not yours. If you ask him to do something, there’s a good chance he’ll think it over first. Thoroughly. But that’s all part of his charm.

Monty is looking for a home that will love him for exactly who he is: big, sweet, stubborn, soulful, and impossible not to adore. If you’ve got room in your heart (and on your couch) for a giant best friend, Monty may be your perfect match.

Monty is neutered, current on vaccines and prevention, and microchipped. He will also have a dental. His adoption fee is $300. To meet Monty, please submit an application at www.k9kindnessrescue.org/adopt. As a reminder, we are not a shelter location and require a scheduled meet and greet.

Adopters must live within 175 miles of the Quad Cities. All pets currently in the home must be routinely kept up to date on shots, prevention and fixed to be approved for adoption.
