Monte - in Maine's Story
Newest update: June 2026

Monte is an 3 yr old Great Pyrenees who is quite the charmer and so fun to be around. He was adopted last year and has returned to our rescue to get some training and to find a home without other dogs and without small children due to some resource guarding behaviors that can be very typical of livestock guardian dogs. Monte was living in a neighborhood where he would encounter a lot of roadkill on his walks and he would guard those precious possessions, and would sometimes redirect onto the other dog in his family. An active person or couple or a family with older kids and a fenced yard would be ideal for this quite large dude.

He is just under 100 lbs and is the SWEETEST boy. He cannot live with cats, and like pretty much every dog of his breed, he can be stubborn - if he doesn't want to walk on that direction you might have a standoff. He loves to snuggle and is a leaner! He will pick his person and become their shadow, and this silly boy loves to be pampered! He loves being brushed and does not mind his nails getting clipped as long as you are loving on him. He will give you a full body hug when you get home if you want one. Though he can be goofy, he does not play with traditional toys, balls or sticks.

He also loves kiddie pools or streams. If there is water and you give him permission, he will have a blast splashing around. He does enjoy a wobble Kong with any food frozen in it, loves peanut butter lick mats, loves sniff work outside in the yard, Loves being trained in general. He picks up very quickly as he is very food motivated (cheese, hot dogs are great). He wants to be a good boy so hes a good listener with consistent training.

If you have interest in meeting this dog or any of our cuties, please fill out the adoption application here: http://www.luckypuprescue.org/adoption-application.

Please note: we do not have a physical facility where our dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.

Thank you for considering rescue!
