Meet Moe

Hi everyone! Meet Moe! He’s a jubilant Australian Cattle Dog mix who is approximately 2 years old. He’s neutered, house-trained, crate trained, and up to date on shots. Moe loves people and belly rubs are one of his very favorite things! When meeting new people, he often rolls onto his back to ask for belly rubs. Moe is very affectionate and really loves to hang out with his person. He is a typical cattle dog in that he bonds closely to his person and will follow that person everywhere.

When Moe is happy, he often makes cute grumbly noises. He can be very playful and especially loves playing with little squeaky toys and will often entertain himself squeaking them and throwing them in the air. He is very smart and loves food which makes training him much easier. Sometimes, he can get a little overexcited when playing, but we’ve been working with him to teach him to settle down when he gets overstimulated.

As often happens with young cattle dogs, Moe sometimes tries to play with his mouth. We have been working on teaching him to not mouth people when playing, but his forever home will need to continue with that training. Because of this, I’d recommend a home with no kids or older, dog-savvy, kids.

Moe would love a fenced in yard to run and play in but would also do well with an active family who could give him ample opportunity to exercise and use his brain. Moe is currently in a foster home with another cattle dog and he seems to get along well with her. I think he would do fine in a home with other dogs, but would also make a good only dog as he really likes to have his person focused on him. He’s also been good with our resident cat, although he does like to follow her around.

Moe loves to make himself at home on the furniture and would love the opportunity to snuggle with his person on the couch or in bed. We’ve not permitted him on the furniture in his foster home, and he’s been ok with that, but he would LOVE the opportunity to enjoy some couch time in his forever home!

Moe does tend to get a bit over-excited when people come to the door, but we’ve been working with him on that too and we’ve been making good progress. This will be another thing that will need continued training in his foster home.

Moe is starting to learn basic commands (sit, stay, come), but at times, needs some reminding of the "house" rules and will need some basic training and manners reinforced when he goes to his forever home.

Moe is heartworm positive and is currently undergoing treatment. If he moves to his permanent home before finishing treatment, his new home would need to continue on with his treatment protocols including crate rest as recommended by his vet.

Moe was rescued from an overcrowded shelter in Georgia and came in as a stray. He is now living with his foster family in Western NY.

Please consider Moe, who would make a wonderful canine buddy!
