Misty's Story
Misty is a 2-year-old, 50-pound Dalmatian/Catahoula mix with a pathological enthusiasm for inclusion and absolutely no interest in cultivating mystique. Walk? This is Misty. Car ride? This is Misty. Running partner? Extremely Misty. Attempting to compress 50 pounds of spotted mammal into your lap through sheer conviction? This is also Misty.

She is outgoing, affectionate, athletic, and magnificently convivial, with enough enthusiasm to make an ordinary Tuesday feel underproduced. Misty wants adventures, attention, cuddles, excursions, and immediate enrollment in whatever activity you somehow forgot to consult her about. Her fear of missing out is industrial-grade. Leave the room and she would simply like clarification regarding why the delegation was not informed. Being left out? Couldn't be Misty.

She does great with most dogs and has happily participated in doggy-daycare playgroups. Her play style has some horsepower, so another dog who appreciates enthusiastic roughhousing could be an excellent co-conspirator. If another dog makes it abundantly clear they dislike her, though, Misty can become frightened and respond from that fear. Thoughtful introductions and humans with decent canine literacy will keep everybody's interpersonal diplomacy from getting unnecessarily messy.

At home, she is almost offensively civilized. She has never needed a crate and is trustworthy free-roaming when left alone, which is advanced domestic competence for a dog with this much recreational velocity. Wildlife has not received similar diplomatic immunity. Squirrels and birds activate the pursuit department, and cats are probably too suspiciously squirrel-adjacent. A secure yard would be ideal for stretching those legs and conducting supervised nonsense.

Then there is the part Misty cannot understand. Her beloved owner entered memory care, and the person around whom her entire world was organized suddenly disappeared from it. A caring neighbor is helping her now, but there is no vocabulary that explains memory care to a dog.

She only knows she used to belong somewhere.

So yes, Misty is adventurous, hilarious, spectacularly affectionate, lap-delusional, and down for basically anything. But beneath all that exuberance is a dog who has already known what it feels like to be somebody's dog.

She just needs to be somebody's dog again.

Bring the car keys, running shoes, a secure fence, and a lap with structurally irresponsible load-bearing expectations.

Misty will lock in from there.

PLEASE READ BELOW:

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs:

https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt

Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application.
*An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application*
All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed.

***Take Paws Rescue, based in New Orleans, saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!
