Mint's Story

Hi there! I’m Mint, a 2-year-old, 34# Border Collie with a big heart, a clever mind, and an impressive talent for running victory laps around the yard with my favorite toy. I’m medium energy, easy to live with and ready to find my very own home.

My favorite place in the world is wherever my person is. I’m a devoted, affectionate girl who loves being close to the humans I trust. Tummy rubs and cuddling beside you on the couch are my favorite. You’ll see the real me when I feel safe, connected, and included in your life. I’m a sensitive soul and ask for a gentle approach, patience, and a predictable schedule to help me shine.

I enjoy walks on leash, romping around a securely fenced yard and carrying toys from place to place. I’m intelligent, fully engaged and live for one-on-one time with my person - playing, learning something new or just being together! That’s all it takes for us to become a terrific team.

I am kind and gentle with the older dogs in my foster home, and would enjoy having a playful canine sibling who wants some company. I’m reliably housebroken and prefer to take care of business in a fenced area rather than on leash. I’m also more comfortable in an exercise pen than a traditional crate at home.

A few things to know about me: I’m not especially fond of men at first, but with time and familiarity, I learn to trust them. Initially, I would do best with a woman as my primary caregiver. A quieter rural or suburban home with a consistent routine would suit me beautifully. I could live with older, respectful kids. Not sure what I would think of cats.

Could you be the person who helps me feel secure, discover new adventures, and enjoy all the cuddles a girl could want? I have a whole lot of love to give, and I’m ready to share it with someone special.

Mint is being fostered in Brainerd, MN. APPLY to adopt her at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

Her adoption fee is $450 plus Minnesota tax. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please read 'Do You Have What It Takes' on our website (www.hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt) before applying to adopt a dog through our rescue. You may also find information about Border Collies helpful (www.hoabcr.org/border-collie-info). Steps in our adoption process include: 1) Filling out an application. Taking this step indicates you are truly interested in adopting a dog - it is not binding. 2) If your application meets the requirements for the dog you're interested in, it will be screened through an initial interview with one of our volunteers. If your application does not meet the requirements, you will not be contacted. 3) If we determine your home could be a good fit for one of our dogs, we will complete reference and vet checks, and set up a home visit, which may occur in person or virtually. 4) If approved, details about your application are sent to the foster that has the dog that you're interested in. If the foster feels you are a match for their foster dog, they will call you to talk in detail about the dog, and possibly move to an in-person meeting. Meetings are allowed AFTER applications are fully approved as described above. 5) If that dog is not deemed to be a good match, we may suggest another dog for you, or your application will be kept on file for a potential future dog. 6) Adoption is complete with payment and a signed adoption contract. Our adoption fees are specified in individual Petfinder listings. The fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm and Lyme tests, rabies & distemper & Bordetella vaccinations (if old enough). Our dogs go to their new homes with a collar, harness, leash, rescue ID tag, starter food, toys and blanket. We are required to charge appropriate MN sales tax.
