Minnie's Story

Current Location: King Willliam, VA

Meet Minnie

Minnie is a one year old, 15 pound Terrier mix who is still unfolding, and what is emerging with every passing day is something genuinely sweet and worth waiting for.

She is loving and affectionate with the people she trusts and has a playful side that comes out beautifully around other dogs and with toys when she feels comfortable and safe. She is still finding her footing in the wider world though, and she is honest about it in the most endearing way. New people, and particularly new men, can cause her to hang back and observe from a safe distance rather than rushing in. She is not aggressive in the slightest, just careful, watching quietly and making sure things feel right before she decides to engage. She is the kind of girl who needs to write her own timeline and she deserves a home that respects that.

She is a work in progress with house training and is getting better every day with patience and consistency. She is not a fan of going into her crate but once she is settled in she does just fine, which tells you that her hesitations are mostly about the unknown and that once something becomes familiar she handles it with grace.

Minnie needs a calm and patient adopter who understands that some of the best things take a little time. She is not the finished product yet. She is the in between, the becoming, the slow and steady reveal of a dog who is going to be absolutely wonderful when she fully arrives. The person who gives her that space is going to feel very lucky indeed.

Operation Paws for Homes's Adoption Policy
Our organization provides pet adoption services to families located in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania and neighboring states. We believe in responsible adoptions and strive to work with each adopter to find a good match for their home and lifestyle. Our adoption process includes completion of an application, a vet check, an interview, and a personal “meet and greet” where the family can meet and interact with their potential new four-legged family member. Throughout this process, we work to ensure each family and dog are the right fit for each other. We are fortunate to have some wonderful and active volunteers who help OPH find forever homes for over 1,000 dogs and cats a year. The key to that statement is - volunteer! Please remember that our organization is driven by caring individuals who give their personal time to help rescue these animals and provide them with the opportunity to find an amazing future! In addition to adoptions, volunteers carry out education and outreach events throughout the area, and conduct donation drives for our partner shelters in the south. Our goal is to offer a second chance to dogs and cats abandoned in shelters and out of time. Sadly, without our help, some of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - sometimes within days of arriving at the shelter. Each year we rescue hundreds of wonderful dogs and cats. We work hard to unite them with forever families who will give them the life and love they deserve. These animals are saved only because of the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors, and volunteers.
