Millie's Story

Millie — The Gentle Soul With a Master's Degree in Cozy Living

Current Location: Clayton, Indiana

Her Story

Millie is a 9yearold, Orange and White English Setter who weighs 48 lbs, and she was deeply loved in her previous home. Due to life changes, her family made the loving choice to help her find the quiet, predictable home she truly deserves. Millie has so much love left to give, and she's ready to share it with someone who appreciates slow mornings, soft voices, and peaceful routines.

Personality & Social Life

Millie has entered her softfocus era: low activity most of the day, a joyful trot around the yard when the mood strikes, and a level of couch commitment that could earn her honorary membership in the Blanket Appreciation Society.

She's friendly, curious, and a big believer in vibes. Millie gets along beautifully with other dogs. Her strategy? “Oh, you're having a moment? I'll just walk this way.” It's conflict resolution at its finest. Millie would also enjoy being an only dog, but if given the chance to choose a dog sibling, it would likely be another setter. She feels that a low key setter is most likely to understand her belief in vibes

She keeps a respectful distance from chickens, hasn't been tested with cats, and prefers her humans on the quieter side. Older men and women? Delightful. Calm, confident men? Excellent. Gentle, quieter women? Lovely. Kids under 12? She's very polite with them, but their energy makes her nervous, so she's looking for a home without little ones.

Her Signature Quirks (aka: Her Charm Points)

Millie has a few habits that make her uniquely Millie:

The Sniff Inspection: When greeting someone—new or familiar—Millie conducts a fullbody sniff audit. Stand still, let the investigation happen, and you'll be rewarded with her approval. Sometimes she even checks your breath. Thoroughness matters.

The Dinner Stomp: When she's ready to eat, she does a little stompy dance that looks like she's warming up for a tap routine.

The Hand Grab: Millie will gently tap your hand with her paw and guide it to her chest or belly for pets. It's her love language.

Training & Home Life

Millie knows here, come, sit, and stop, and she listens beautifully when she's calm. When she's anxious, she needs reassurance and a strong bond with her person before she can be trusted to roam freely.

She loves her crate—it's her safe place—and she's been perfectly fine left alone for up to four hours. She's housebroken, gets antsy when she needs to go out, and just needs help learning how to signal in a new home.

‍ Leash & Fence Needs

Millie is a dream on a long line in the yard. On a leash? She pulls like she's auditioning for a sled team. A strong handler will be important outside a fenced area. With some time, patience, and repetition, Millie could improve her leash skills.

She's learning the invisible fence, but it stresses her out a bit. She's used to a physical fence and loves to run, so she'll thrive with secure fencing and room to stretch her legs.

Health

Millie is healthy, up to date on vaccines, bloodwork, and vet care. Once Millie has time to settle into her new forever home she'll need a dental. Millie has a tiny eye cyst that could be removed. She has a lick granuloma that has improved dramatically in foster care.

Ideal Home

Millie is a quietday queen. She thrives in calm environments with adults who appreciate her gentle spirit. She'd enjoy a mellow dog companion, but she'll be just as happy being someone's cherished solo sidekick.

Current Location: Clayton, Indiana
Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US, within 1,000 miles of the dog's current location. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) is required for transport. There will be an additional charge of $75.00 required to offset the cost of obtaining a CVI. In most cases, our transport team will be able to arrange transport of your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. You may apply for a dog outside of the 1,000 mile radius, but you must be willing to make arrangements for transport, which may include flying at your expense, driving to a location within the 1,000 mile radius, or obtaining an independent transport at your expense.
