Miley (Special Needs)'s Story

FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Miley. She is an 18 month old Bernedoodle purchased from a CA 'breeder.'. We took this sweet girl in as an owner surrender when Miley became a trip hazard for her older owner. In addition Miley has what we thought were some minor medical issues - but she comes with Pet Insurance, so we brought her into the Save-A-Mutt family.

However, in her experienced foster home, we were seeing more serious issues than explained by her previous owner and had our veterinary team run more tests, including an endoscopy. We found she had a foreign body (likely a rawhide chew), ulcers, GERD and undiagnosed Megaesophagus.

Megaesophagus (MegaE) in dogs is a chronic condition where the esophagus loses muscle tone and fails to move food and water down into the stomach. Dogs often regurgitate their food. In Miley's case, it is being controlled with a raised food dish, and we wet down / soften her prescription food. We did a LOT of trial and error to find the best medication regimen and food to help with all her gastrointestinal issues. She is on Sildenafil for the MegaE, omeprazole and Royal Canin - Hydrolyzed Protein(HP) Adult Dog Food for the GERD. Once we figured out all the components - Miley is a happy, and silly girl! Her new owner MUST follow these recommendations and work with their veterinarian to maintain her care. She's on Pet Insurance that can be transferred to a new owner and all her conditions are covered. The premiums have been paid through next February. We HIGHLY recommend her coverage be continued when the policy is up for renewal.

Her foster says Miley's best home would be someone who will take her on daily walks and even hiking. She LOVES anything water related. Miley would be great as an only dog (and was prior to coming into Rescue) but she also enjoys playing with other dogs. She's in a foster home with dogs, cats and kids. Miley enjoys fetch and playing with toys, and has the BEST head tilt! She is crate trained and housebroken. Her foster family says she's a really great dog.

Adopter MUST be prepared to include grooming in their budget.

This dog is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. She's about 55#.

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $475. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your dog.
