Mikko's Story

“Mikko” (pronounced mee-ko)

Mikko is a 3-year old Golden Retriever. He is house-trained, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, on had a recent 4dx (negative). Mikko knows some basic commands, but could use a brush up, including a formal training class. He is a typical golden retriever that wants to be by your side and is a very loving boy.

Mikko came into rescue recently needing a foreign body surgery. He was a very sick boy and did not feel well. There were two children’s toys in his intestines. MikKo is feeling much better, recently had his sutures removed, and is ready to find a new home.

Mikko’s needs:

After x-rays were done before his foreign body surgery, it was discovered that he has fairly severe hip dysplasia. He already has the beginning of arthritis in both hips, the right hip is worse than the left. At this point, he is not symptomatic so this is something that will need to be monitored and medically addressed when he starts to show symptoms. His forever home will need to be a ranch-style home where he is not going up and down steps.

Because of the foreign body surgery and the toys that he ate, he will not be placed in a home with small children. He does get along with other dogs, and has lived with cats as well.

Mikko has been itchy so we are trying a hydrolyzed diet to see if there is improvement. He may need a prescription food or perhaps an allergy medication to help with this. We will know more in the near future.

Potential adopters must have a history of solid veterinary care for current and past pets.
