Mercy's Story

Meet Mercy — She Was Abandoned When She Needed Love the Most. Now It's Her Turn.

Approximately 8 years old - 47 lbs - Female - Anatolian Shepherd mix - Crate trained - Cat friendly

Some stories break your heart in a way that's hard to put into words. Mercy's is one of them.

Because how could anyone look at a dog as gentle, kind, and loving as Mercy and simply leave her behind?

Mercy's owners moved away and abandoned her. But they didn't just leave her behind. They barricaded her on their property, leaving her trapped in the backyard where nobody would even know she was there.

Imagine being a dog who loves people, who wants nothing more than a little affection and a safe place to sleep, suddenly left alone with no way out. No family coming home. No familiar footsteps. No idea why the people she trusted had disappeared.

Mercy spent MONTHS alone in that backyard.

Thankfully, some kind neighbors discovered what had happened. They brought her food and water, doing what they could to keep her alive. Eventually, a plea went out for help, and Mercy's story reached us.

And now, she is safe.

Mercy has been in our care since August 2026, and we are so grateful she was given another chance. Despite everything she has endured, this beautiful senior girl has held on to the sweetest heart.

She is gentle. She is kind. She loves people. And somehow, after being abandoned by the very humans who should have protected her, she is still ready to love again.

That's the kind of dog Mercy is. She has every reason to have given up on people, yet all she wants is to be close to them.

At approximately 8 years old, Mercy is considered a senior, but please don't let that number fool you. This girl still has plenty of life in her!

At around 47 lbs, she's a lovely medium-sized companion who enjoys a medium level of activity. She can happily keep up with active dogs, loves to play, and would enjoy getting out for a nice walk or two. She still has that spark in her, and we want her next chapter to be filled with all the wonderful experiences she's missed.

She's been examined by a veterinarian, and thankfully, she is in good condition for her age, with no issues noted during her examination.

Now, what does Mercy dream about?

Honestly, nothing extravagant.

A comfy couch. A soft bed she can call her own. A family who gives her plenty of pets and tells her she's a good girl. A few toys to play with. Tasty treats. A nice walk in the sunshine. And, most importantly, people who come home to her every single day.

That's it. That's her dream.

After months of being left alone, we imagine that having someone nearby, someone who wants to spend time with her simply because they love her, would mean the world to Mercy.

She loves all the people she meets, and her gentle, affectionate nature makes her such a special girl. Children could be a wonderful addition to her future home, too, provided interactions are always respectful and supervised.

And cats? Mercy has met them and done wonderfully! No issues noted. For families with feline friends, that's another lovely quality to appreciate about this sweet girl.

Mercy is also crate trained and is working on her house training. After spending so long confined to an abandoned property, she may need some gentle reminders and patience as she adjusts to living in a home again. We believe she deserves that understanding. She's been through so much, and learning a new routine takes time.

She doesn't need perfection from her future family, so we hope her family won't expect perfection from her, either. Just patience, kindness, consistency, and the willingness to help her succeed.

Because Mercy has already spent enough time waiting for someone to care.

We cannot change the months she spent alone. But we can help make sure the rest of her life is nothing like them.

We want Mercy to know what it's like to wake up in a warm home, stretch out on her very own bed, and realize she is safe. To hear her family moving around the house and know they haven't forgotten about her. To go for walks, play with her toys, enjoy her treats, and fall asleep beside someone who would never dream of leaving her behind.

We want her to experience the kind of love that doesn't disappear when life gets inconvenient.

And please, don't overlook her because she is a senior.

Eight years old is not the end of her story. She still has so much love to give, so many happy days ahead, and so many ordinary little moments waiting to become extraordinary simply because she gets to share them with her own family.

Mercy deserves to be loved just as fiercely as any puppy. She deserves a family who sees her age and recognizes the wonderful companion she can be. She deserves a retirement filled with comfort, companionship, playtime, and joy.

Most of all, she deserves to finally feel chosen.

Someone abandoned Mercy. We want someone else to show her what forever really means.

Could you be the person who gives this beautiful girl the life she should have had all along?

If you have room on your couch, space in your heart, and a little extra love to give, please consider Mercy. She isn't asking for the world. She's just asking for a place in yours.

And if you can't adopt, please share her story. Help us reach the person who will look at this sweet senior girl and see not her age, but her heart.

Let's give Mercy the ending she deserves: a loving home, a family of her own, and a lifetime of never being left behind again.

PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION BELOW IF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING:

The next step to adopt is to fill out an application on our website at: www.pawsitive-Impact-animal-rescue.org

Mercy is spayed, heart worm negative, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, current on flea/tick and heart worm prevention, microchipped, current on de-wormer, and will receive a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian prior to transport.

This animal is currently located in Texas, but we do NOT adopt animals in Texas due to the hundreds of animals being euthanized here daily.
