Mercedes's Story

Mercedes is looking for a loving home!

This shy gal is very gentle and is looking for a family with patience and lots of love to give. She was brought in with her puppies and did a wonderful job teaching and caring for them. Now it's this lovely lady's turn for some TLC. Mercedes would do best in a home that can help show her how kind people can be while respecting that trust takes time.

Mercedes was in a foster to help with her socialization here is what her fosters learned about her:
She is still learning what a house is and what comes with a house, but is quickly loving what that offers!
She put herself in her kennel the first night and took a looooong nap. When her fosters woke up they found her making herself at home on the couch, and she greeted them happily with a nudge to let her outside!
Her foster's would say she is potty trained, or at least just really prefers to go outdoors. She had pawed at the gate to the back door late in the evening and same thing in the morning and went potty immediately both times.
She loves being in the backyard with people and gets the best zoomies! She will even play bow at you to get you to run around with her! She shows you her fancy big stretches and then she's off!

She is a bit timid especially if you move too quickly, but learning that's not always so scary.
Mercedes did well with the 2 cats in her foster home. Not reactive when the cats inspect her food bowl or approach her. She was confused when a cat rubbed up on her but had friendly body language. She has not tried to chase them, quite the opposite actually!

Anything crinkly and plastic means food to her. She has gotten into a couple of things, but does well with a "no" and redirection. She gets bored easily when left alone so crate training is highly recommended. Mercedes did well for short periods in the kennel, but once left alone she could not settle. She would really thrive with a family that can take the time to show her it's okay to be alone in a kennel.

Mercedes loves treats and would learn quickly with the right training. She walks well on a leash. Gets along with some dogs and would just really love a calm home to live her life.

Come meet Mercedes at High Country Humane. The shelter is open Thursday-Tuesday 11-5 and closed on Wednesdays

Can you be the supportive and caring home Mercedes deserves?

Adopting with High Country Humane means your new pet is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped (we register it for free!). Each adoption also includes a free health exam. Please bring a leash and collar with you or plan to purchase them here. We can't wait to help you meet your new furry friend!

This is also a great time to ask our team any lingering questions you might have, and we’re here to provide you with resources so you and your new pet can start things off on the right paw! AFTER ADOPTION You have a new pet, how exciting! Please remember that each animal will have an adjustment period in their new home after adoption. Every pet is unique & will adjust differently, but as a general guideline you can follow the 3-3-3 rule! 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, and 3 months to start to feel at home. It doesn’t happen overnight, so give your new pet the patience they need to settle in & feel at home!
