Memphis's Story

Memphis was picked up by animal control and not claimed. We can't figure out why as he is super friendly, smart and listens well. He loves toys, taking walks and running laps around the play yard. He likes treats but takes them only after getting some pets from the volunteers. He seems genuinely happy to meet people and solicits attention from visitors. He recently went to Tractor Supply and did amazing! He sat politely and let people pet him. He got right into the vehicle and loved to hang his head out the window. He did move about the vehicle so we recommend a doggie seatbelt when traveling. Memphis has shown some resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs when it comes to food so we recommend that he eats in a separate room at dinner time. He has also bristled up and lunged at other male dogs so we will require a meet-n-greet with any resident dogs to see if they are a match. Cats are also a no-no as he gets fixated on them and we believe he would chase them if they ran. It's possible that he's just curious but we aren't willing to risk it. Memphis is very clean in his kennel indicating that he could be potty trained. As with any dog, he will need time to learn his new person's schedule but we believe he will quickly adjust. Dog's like Memphis have a ton of hair and will need daily brushing and twice a year deshedding to keep his fur from matting. We are guessing him at 3.5 years old. If you're looking for an active, friendly, smart dog... Memphis is your guy!

Creston Animal Rescue Effort/Creston City Pound's Adoption Policy
Animals are available for adoption after the stray hold time has expired. The State of Iowa requires all animals adopted from this facility to be sterilized. The City of Creston also requires a Rabies vaccination. Most of the pets at the Creston City Pound are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and tested for heartworm and feline leukemia before adoption. The adoption fee is $20.00 unless the animal has not been spayed/neutered and then there is also a $20.00 spay/neuter deposit collected at the time of adoption. * Adoptions cannot be done through the mail or done as a gift for someone else. * The actual adopter must fill out an application and meet with the Adoption Coordinator. * Adopters must be at least 21 years old. * The animal must reside at the address on the contract. * We cannot adopt outside of Iowa as it is too difficult to do home checks and review applications. * We give priority to local adopters who own their home and have completed an adoption application. We ask that you submit the adoption application prior to making appointments to meet the animals. Print one from our website at www.petfinder.com or request to have one mailed to you. The applications usually take 5 business days to review. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption to anyone. Call ahead for an appointment as the City Pound does not have regular “open” hours, leave a message at 641-782-2330 and a volunteer will return your call. Please be patient, ALL our work is done by volunteers who have full-time jobs and families. When calling please speak clearly and leave a phone number. You may also email CARE at mdowney@iowatelecom.net or message us on Facebook @ CrestonAnimals.
