Mello's Story
🐾 Meet Mello — The Goofy, Loving Golden Mix Who’s Ready for His Fresh Start 🐾
Mello is a 2‑year‑old, 65 lb Golden Retriever mix with a heart as big as his smile and a personality that fills the room. This handsome boy came to us from an unstable situation, and while he has always been friendly, affectionate, and wonderfully goofy, he never had the structure or boundaries young dogs need to thrive.

Because of that lack of guidance, Mello picked up some habits that weren’t ideal — things like pulling on his leash, jumping up for attention, and taking random objects (pillows, yarn, you name it!) and then guarding them. When humans tried to take those items or move him from a spot he didn’t want to leave, he sometimes snapped out of fear and uncertainty, not aggression. He also developed some “nervous” behaviors when he wasn’t sure if he was safe.

But here’s the part that matters most:
Even with those challenges, Mello remained a loving, social, affectionate dog who adores people of all ages, other dogs, and even cats. His heart has always been good — he just needed someone to show him how to use it.

🌟 Training Superstar
To help Mello become the best version of himself, we enrolled him in a professional training program — and he has been an absolute angel. Truly. His trainer says he’s basically a big goofy puppy who just needed structure, consistency, and confidence-building.

He has learned:

Beautiful leash manners

Sit, down, and place

Come when called

He’s working hard on “drop it”

How to settle, focus, and trust his handler

His trainer believes he will make a fantastic dog for a family willing to continue reinforcing what he’s learned and keep his “puppy brain” engaged with exercise, routine, and clear direction.

❤️ What Mello Needs
We are looking for an adopter who is willing to work directly with our trainer before adoption to learn Mello’s cues, communication style, and how to guide him successfully. After adoption, the trainer will provide two free follow‑up sessions to help Mello transition smoothly into his new home.

This boy is worth every bit of the effort. He is sweet, silly, eager to please, and so ready to bond deeply with his person.

🩺 Health & Vetting
Mello is:

Up to date on all veterinary care

Neutered

Microchipped

A very healthy, happy 2‑year‑old

🏡 Ready for His Happily Ever After
Mello has come so far, and he’s ready for the next chapter — one filled with love, structure, patience, and plenty of playtime. If you’re looking for a dog who will make you laugh, keep you active, and love you with his whole goofy heart, Mello may be your perfect match.

If you are interested in adopting Mello, please go to the rescue website, happyhomespetrescue.com, and fill out an adoption application.
