MELETTI - (JJ) MAUI HAWAII's Story

SEE BABY PHOTOS WHICH SHOW CATAHOULA … LOCATED IN MAUI HAWAII. but .. she is being relocated in FEBRUARY unless adopted prior.. she will be in South Carolina! Meletti is a spayed, fully vetted, 2 & 1/2 years old German Wire Haired Pointer, Catahoula mix female. Dad was Catahoula. She HW negative and on preventative (Heartguard and Nexguard) and on flea and tick preventative. She is on Kirkland Beef and sweet potato dog food and she is fed twice daily which is proper. She turns 3 on Feb 5th.. she weighs about 35 pounds. She is good with a toddler that is not quite one to date. She has never been reactive with him at all. Has had a little contact with older children. Always supervised with children. No cats please. She is not a digger in their yard but loves to dig sand at the beach and it is just sporadic fun. She is mostly good on leash but a little pulling. She corrects easily. They can walk past birds and it is fine. When she sees another dog she wants to play with them so then she tugs in excitement. She recognizes the ones she gets to play with. When she is on leash she is protective while they are setting up the baby outside the vehicle. She is in the vehicle and he guards the car. Once out she is friendly with strangers, mostly good with all people, reactive to homeless people is all. Moderately protective. She likes to ride in the vehicle. She gets excited and can get a bit vocal. She is selectively good with some dogs, mostly better with male dogs. She seems to accept any size male dog and submits to even dominate males and more selective reactive with females and more her size and smaller she isn’t so good. She seems to prefer larger females. Tested on Airedale’s and Pit bulls and labs are ok in females. She did attack Australian shepherds and fluffy dogs and smaller females. She is only an alert dog in the home but not overdone on being vocal. She is not destructive when left alone in the home and she is crate broke to an open wire crate and about to be trained to an airline approved crate due to the fact that she must be flown to the mainland if anyone shows interest in her. Owner is willing to fly her Alaska Air to a rock solid committed approved adopter by JCLDR, that will work with JCLDR to settle her in. She loves toy play and in the house mainly, in the park she wants to run and play with dogs rather than toys. She loves her stuffed animals and she does eventually tear them up but does not ingest.. still she should be supervised with that. She likes the Chuckit balls in her yard or in the house. She is tie broke when needed.

HISTORY: Bought her at 8 weeks old and she has been with them all the time. They are giving her up is because she needs more exercise and stimulation to be happy and healthy and they have a new baby and they want to have another so they feel they cannot keep up with two hours of outing a day. She is high energy and needing the stimulation. Husband seen her act out with the few dogs and is afraid for his children. (Does not mean she will turn on the baby but it is his call, also the concern of another wrong dog hurts someone else’s dog, they are worried. He is just doing his dad carefulness for his family, it is his call)

GOOD: The family really loves this dog and they wish they could find her an easy dog for them. She is so sweet, she gives hugs, she is very gentle with the baby. She’s puts her toy down for the baby and lets go of it if he reaches for the toy. She is a part of their family. Both husband and wife do love her and want what is best for her. She is incredibly smart and will learn anything someone wants to teach her. She is very willing. She has a funny funky personality and frolics super joyous.

BAD: Without prior knowledge the family did hire a trainer who taught them to use a shock collar and every one of her traits was under shock collar control. It has not made her ugly or aggressive like it does most dogs JCLDR encounters. The dog reactivity could be triggered by that. The level of physical and stimulus she needs she gets pretty amped up and we all feel it will tone down with the halting use of the shock collar and the family has stopped using it per our requirement (JCLDR NOTE HERE) This is a good dog that has potential to grow into a more stable lower maintenance dog.

UGLY: No ugly except her dog reaction to certain dogs. She has never bitten a human.
