May's Story

Meet May! May is an almost 7-year-old Hound/Jagd Terrier mix searching for a home that truly matches her drive, intelligence, and loyalty. She was deeply loved by her original owner, who sadly passed away in October 2024. Since then, his family has done everything possible to make things work, but May needs more time, purpose, and structure than they’re able to provide.

May is fully house trained, kennel trained, spayed, and knows commands like sit and shake. She is affectionate, loyal, and incredibly smart. She does really well with children and other dogs, particularly male dogs. However, she has a strong prey drive and will hunt if given the opportunity, including house cats, so a cat-free home and barriers to any neighbor cats are necessary for everyone's best.

True to her two breeds, May is either a couch princess or a working machine; there’s really no middle gear for her. She would thrive best in a home with someone who hunts or wants a true working companion. If she is not kenneled, secured, or wearing a boundary collar, she will follow her nose and create her own adventures. She is not a “leave her loose in the yard” type of dog. She will need secure fencing or consistent containment.

May isn’t the right fit for a casual or first-time dog owner. She needs someone confident, experienced, and ready to give her structure and purpose. In the right home, she will be an incredibly loyal and hardworking companion.

May is not at the shelter; she is a courtesy listing. This is truly not a decision made lightly at all. Her current caretaker wants nothing more than to find the right match for May so she can have the best life possible. If you believe you are that person, please contact Tawni Wolfley directly at 307-887-1059.
