Max in NC - Excellent Meeting New People's Story

Meet Max, a Pyr gentleman with a story that will break your heart and then put it back together again. When Max’s owner fell on hard times and lost her home, she paid somebody to care for her dogs. This person left Max outside without food or water. Max was found weighing only half of his ideal weight, emaciated with severe muscle atrophy in his back legs. Animal control seized him as part of a cruelty case, but none of that ever touched the amazing puppy inside him.

Today Max is a confident, joyful boy with no fears to speak of. He's housebroken, leash trained, and crate trained, with a medium to low activity level. He's good with cats, giving them a curious sniff, and then leaving to play with his toys or get some pets. He’s good with all dogs and loves to play with them, he’s okay with kids, and is truly amazing when meeting new people - he’s calm and cool and politely accepts pets and hugs. Max loves his toys and adores carrying them around and playing with them. His favorite treat is chicken, which is what he requests at every meal.

Max isn’t one to run all day or do agility activities - he much prefers a nice saunter around the neighborhood, and a leash-walk-only home would be great for him. He has no behavior issues at all - by his foster's account, Max is simply perfect. He “talks” when he’s happy and excited, which is super precious and will have you giggling for sure! This sweet boy would enjoy having doggie friends and playdates to socialize, though he doesn't require canine companionship to be happy. He'd do wonderfully as a leash-walk-only dog or in a home with a 4-foot fence. The ideal home for Max is one that will spoil and love him forever!

NYS Registered Rescue # RR102
NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.

Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
